They never requested any personal details. It’s a survey firm employed by eBay to question sellers, helping eBay improve their selling platform. I used to work for a survey company like that. Basically, eBay sends them the questions and a caller list, then pays them after a set number of completed surveys. Those firms aren’t allowed by law to sell your info on, so if you get dodgy calls, definitely report them.

They claimed to be from eBay but kept asking about someone I’d never heard of, so I told them it was probably a wrong number. The whole thing felt dodgy tho. My phone said the call came from Tarporley, England, but I don’t think there’s an eBay office there - Tarporley’s just a small village in Cheshire with farms and big private homes.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from Ebay about a survey. I was busy at work so told them to ring me later. Next day, they kept ringing me about 4 times, which seemed a bit much for a survey? I looked up the number after and saw loads of comments saying it might be a scam, so I just blocked it.

Some bloke rang me on my phone and already knew my name. He claimed he was calling for Ebay and noticed I hadn’t sold anything recently, asking what was up. Then he questioned when I last sold something on there. To be honest, I thought if he had records, he’d see it for himself. He then asked me to take part in a survey. I told him I’m not into surveys and that it was actually my daughter doing the selling for me since I find it confusing. He said he got it, we exchanged good wishes, and he hung up.

Got a cold call today, rang me a couple of times but didn’t leave any voicemail. I’ve got a clear message on my phone saying cold callers get sent straight to answerphone and if they don’t leave a reason for calling, they get blocked. a few months back, a nice woman rang me about seller standards or something like that. today, i got another call and was a bit suspicious because my phone flagged the number as some ebay scam. but then i recognised her calm voice from before when she mentioned she'd called me previously. i'd say this number is MOST LIKELY legit, but i’d still be careful and not share loads of info with someone calling unexpectedly. mind, she didn’t actually ask for much anyway.

I just got a call and people keep saying it's from Ebay but that’s not right, it’s some outsourcing firm doing market research about fast and free services and what we think of Ebay, plus any questions we might have. Not sure why everyone thinks Ebay itself is calling. The woman was quite nice and didn’t ask for any personal info or anything.

This call was from an outside company doing surveys for Ebay about their service and how easy their website is to use. They were just after honest opinions from people who buy and sell stuff on Ebay about what’s good, what’s bad and what could be better. The bloke who rang me seemed really nice and I felt like he was legit. He never once tried to get any personal details or passwords from me.

Someone called claiming to be from eBay and asked if I was aware of Fast and Free shipping. When I probed a bit more, they admitted they weren’t actually eBay but a firm called Interact CC from Richmond. Oddly, their number had a Tarporley, Cheshire area code. As far as I know, eBay’s main office is in Richmond. It all felt fishy, and the caller just ended the call when I kept asking questions.

Got a call from a lady who knew my name and sounded like she was working in some noisy call centre. She said she was ringing from eBay and asked if I was using their Fast and Free service. When I told her no, she just said ‘oh well, if it’s not right for your business’ and then hung up. It felt a bit odd. Thanks for this site, I’ve blocked the number now.

Said they were Ebay, but trust me they’re not! Ebay has offices in places like Dublin, the US and the Philippines, but no way do they have a call centre in Cheshire. Plus, if they really were Ebay, they’d have known my Ebay account was shut down years ago.

Got a call on my home phone today (barely anyone else has the number). The caller said they were from eBay and wanted to talk to someone called June. I told them no one here goes by that name. They replied with, "Oh, so you’ve got the wrong number then?" I said, "Yeah, sounds like it." They then said sorry and thanked me for answering. And that was that.

The full email I sent is way too long to post, but here’s a bit of it: "I demand to know how this ‘company’ got hold of a name and phone number when none of this data is shown on our ebay page. I don’t reckon I need to remind ebay HQ that breaching GDPR can bring serious consequences, and this looks like a textbook case. Yeah, I got a call from that Tarporley number too - they claimed it had to do with Mulibuy and said they were from eBay. When I told them I was actually trying to cut down on my sales, not boost them, they asked if there was a reason. I said no, and then they just disappeared straight away! Total nonsense - feels like some Cheshire scam crew or something.

A bloke named Omar rang claiming to be from InterAct, working for eBay. We chatted for a while but as soon as he twigged I’m not impressed with eBay and how sellers are hiking prices, he said it wasn’t worth his time and just cut off. He mentioned a deal with 10% off computers but clearly hadn’t done his homework since most tech stuff doesn’t have that kind of margin anyhow.
