The call is suspected to be an attempt to trick people into switching providers or giving away personal bank details. Genuine BT staff apparently do not make these types of calls. Many who received this have simply hung up without giving any info.

Some bloke with an accent that sounded like he could be from Pakistan rang up claiming to be from BT. He said my internet was gonna be disconnected for almost a month. Pretty sure it was a total scam, maybe he was trying to trick me into switching my supplier or, even worse, to steal my bank details. I didn't stick around to see where it was going and just ended the call. BT definitely don’t do that sort of thing over the phone.
