9 yearsI received a rather dubious phone call from a chap named Sam, who sported a rather thick Indian or Bangladeshi accent. He was keen on persuading me to take out insurance for my television-a product I've neither acquired nor ever shown interest in. His spiel was that I supposedly already had TV insurance and that the monthly fee would somehow be reduced from £7 to £5. When I pointed out that I don't possess any such insurance and certainly don’t need it, he was quite insistent, attempting to sway me into thinking I was mistaken. It’s quite alarming, especially considering how easily such calls could mislead elderly or vulnerable individuals who may not recognise this for what it is-a potential scam. They seem to be pushing unwanted products or, worse yet, fishing for sensitive financial details.
