The caller, who introduced himself as Dan, claimed he was returning my call-an assertion that made little sense since I’d never reached out to him, especially not from this home number, which I haven't shared in donkey's years. He mentioned he was conducting an insulation survey to inquire about the lagging in my cavity walls, which struck me as odd since it seemed like two different topics were jumbled together. When I probed him about how he acquired my number, he stated it came from a Government list of individuals who had insulation fitted. At that point, it became crystal clear that this was a scam, as there’s no way my landline number would be on such a list. He remained quite courteous, simply acknowledging my doubts before I ended the call. I immediately hopped onto this site to see a plethora of similar experiences shared by others.

I don’t usually answer calls from numbers I don’t know, but this one was from a local Swindon area code so I gave it a go. I thought it might be about an appointment or update from the hospital regarding some medical stuff I had done recently. Turned out it was someone ringing about insulation. I told them I wasn’t interested right away.

Just like others have mentioned, I had a rather frustrating experience with this caller. There was a noticeable lag between his words and my responses, which I suspect was due to the call getting diverted through my local exchange. The lad sounded quite young and seemed to be monotonously reciting from a script, absolutely unwilling to halt his spiel. I eventually told him to do one, accusing him of being a con artist. Remarkably, he tried to call me again after about ten minutes. I didn’t pick up, but promptly blocked him by dialling 14258 on my home phone and following the given prompts.
