Somebody rang me a couple times but I didn’t recognise the number. I looked it up online and apparently it’s best to ignore calls from them. I’ve gone ahead and blocked it now.

I saw it was a local number, so I picked up even though I didn't recognise it. The guy introduced himself as Dan and said he was calling me back (which made no sense since I hadn’t called him, especially not from my home number that I’ve barely shared). He claimed to be doing an insulation survey about the cavity wall insulation (which sounded a bit mixed up to me). When I asked where he got my phone number from, he said it was from some Government list of people who had insulation fitted. That’s when I realised it was a scam because there’s no way that number would be on such a list. He was quite polite about it, so I just said alright and ended the call. Later I checked this site and saw loads of comments like mine.

I don’t usually answer calls from numbers I don’t know, but this one was from a local Swindon area code so I gave it a go. I thought it might be about an appointment or update from the hospital regarding some medical stuff I had done recently. Turned out it was someone ringing about insulation. I told them I wasn’t interested right away.

Just like a few others mentioned, there was a weird lag before I could speak, must’ve been bounced through to my local exchange. The bloke sounded young and was clearly sticking to some script, kept going even when I wasn’t interested. I told him to jog on and called him out as a scammer straight up. Then, about ten minutes after, he rang again but I didn’t pick up. Ended up blocking him using 14258 on my home phone and did what the voice prompted.
