I’ve come across a company named Ifonic based in Swansea that appears to be involved in PPI claims. They seem to be recognised by the Ministry of Justice, which apparently gives them a licence to fleece consumers! They launched into a well-rehearsed pitch about repayments I might be entitled to. However, they were insistent on obtaining my credit card info for an upfront charge of £495, which is quite a leap from the initial £99 plus VAT they mentioned. On top of that, they’d take a hefty 22% off any compensation owed to me! They claimed that Experian could conduct a credit check stretching back to 1992, but that’s a bit dubious since Experian’s own guidelines indicate they only retain records for 6-10 years, and only if the account remains active. I urge everyone to exercise caution with these folks and absolutely DO NOT share any of your personal information.
