Had some bloke from Octopus Energy come round to put in a smart meter. Proper pushy, seemed like he was working for commission or summat. Just a heads up, you totally can say no if you’re not keen.

A lot of people seem to be slagging off this number, but actually it’s the smart meter team from Octopus Energy. I was waiting for them to ring to set up my new meter fitting. The person on the phone was really courteous and gave me all the info I needed, and we sorted a date. If you’re not interested in having a smart meter, that’s fine, but a lot of the stuff written here sounds a bit off. They didn’t ask for any bank details or anything, just checked my name and the address for the installation, which was spot on.

Got a call from someone claiming they’re allowed to talk to me about my current energy company. When I asked who the supplier was, they just hung up. It’s clearly a scam trying to get your card info. Never give them any payment details and make sure you tell the police straight away.

I get calls from these guys like every couple of days, sometimes even more than once a day! Just yesterday, they left me a voicemail about fitting a smart meter or something. Luckily, I’ve blocked them now so my phone doesn’t even buzz anymore.

I’ve never put in a request with Octopus for a smart meter, yet they keep ringing me up to “schedule an installation date for the meter I supposedly ordered.” I’ve already made it clear to Octopus that I’m not interested in having one - especially since millions of smart meters have been shown to overcharge people. Got a call from some call centre claiming to be from Octopus Energy, insisting I had to give a meter reading immediately because my bill was going up 20% from the next day. I told them I wasn’t close to my meter and that my contract was fixed-price for the full term. They argued that prices could rise whenever they liked! I said I wasn’t about to trust someone with a foreign accent on the phone and that I’d get in touch with Octopus myself. They called again today but I ignored it. Now their number is blocked.

Got a call on my phone from someone claiming to be fitting a new meter for Octopus Energy. Since we already got a new meter for our flat through Octopus, I wondered if it was about the communal electricity meter in our block, which is also supplied by them. They put me on hold to confirm, then phoned back with some possible installation dates. But just as I was about to agree, the line went dead and I haven’t heard a thing from them since.

Avoid getting a new meter put in, it just causes more hassle. Whenever you switch your plan, the new provider ends up fitting their own meter. Feels like something dodgy is happening but at the government level, there’s no one really watching out for customers. Not happy about this at all...
