I pointedly remarked, “So you trudge off to work every day, yet you’re unaware of your own premises?!” So, being my usual self, I said, “Well, my brother would be very interested, he’s out in the garden right now, let me fetch him.” I then promptly set down the receiver by the phone, poured myself a drink, kicked back, and switched on the tele. After a good ten minutes, I began to hear a timid voice attempting to break the silence with “Hello….? Hello….? Hello…….?” I continued to enjoy my programme for another ten minutes (twenty in total), with numerous “Hello….?”s echoing in the background, until she finally relented and hung up. For the record, I have neither a brother nor a garden! This has become my go-to tactic for dealing with pesky telemarketers. It does a marvellous job as they never seem to call back. Plus, I consider it a public service since, a) I'm wasting their time and money (they foot the bill for the call), and b) while they’re tying up the line waiting for my imaginary brother to saunter in from the garden, they can’t harass other unsuspecting souls. The company is purportedly called Nationwide Energy Services, and my trusty reverse phone directory indicates they’re located in the Morriston area of Swansea.
