I let a call from this number slip by, so I decided to give them a bell. Upon returning the call, I was met with an automated message declaring that this is Lighter Life, a weight loss company, if I’m not mistaken.

Right, so this started when my home phone rang, and when I picked up, all I got was a voicemail saying their offices were shut and to ring back during office hours. I haven’t been part of this group for like 4 years, yet they keep sending me voting papers! I fill them out and post them back, so these votes get included, which kinda means that every election Unite holds is not done properly. It’s a bit dodgy if you ask me.

About five years back, I walked away from uni after a big row with a new boss who clearly had no clue what she was doing. It wasn’t just a clash; she wanted her best mate to take over my role - and guess what, she did! At the time, my Union, Unite, was absolutely useless, and since then I’ve had loads of calls trying to get me to join up again, despite me explaining why I won’t. I even switched my number and kept it unlisted, but somehow they manage to dig it up from shared databases. These days, I’ve even gone as far as altering my name for letters - using my middle name for voting records, Council’s name for banks - just so I can handle the spam mail better. I’ve finally worked out where these letters come from and can complain properly now, but the phone calls still drive me mad.

Since the end of August, this number has been ringing me nearly every day. I don’t answer because it’s so irritating, and they never leave a voicemail - so I’m guessing if it was something urgent, they’d leave a message. Turns out, it’s Unite attempting to get former members back. I cancelled my membership after quitting my job in December to go back to studying. They weren’t very helpful when I was still a member, so it’s a bit rich that they’re bothering me now I’m gone. Honestly, they should feel embarrassed about it.
