I get calls from these people pretty much every weekday, anytime between about 8:30 in the morning and 8 at night. Sometimes it’s a bloke, sometimes a woman, but it’s always a Scottish accent. They say they’re from something called the Zinc Group or whatever and give some kind of reference number. I’ve never heard of them or given them any permission to ring me, I’m on the TPS list. I just ignore the calls, but they’ve probably left over 20 messages on my voicemail.

I’ve done a bit of digging, and it turns out that the phone number 01789 405 060 is confirmed to be linked to a SCAM by SHELL ENERGY. They’re quite persistent-ringing you up and even sending dodgy letters that bear a shoddy version of the Shell logo. The letters are essentially threats, pretending you owe them something and warning that they'll hand your case over to debt collectors if you don’t reply. Shell Energy, which took over from First Utility a while back, gave me a ring about my direct debit not going through, which was correct. They had the exact amounts and didn’t ask for any bank details or stuff you’d expect from a scam. They said they’d ring back once the new direct debit was sorted, said within 48 hours, so I’ll wait and see. Nothing about the call seemed dodgy to me at all.

I've been getting loads of calls and texts claiming I owe money and need to sort it straight away. Since I own a flat with a card meter and I'm not connected to Shell energy at all, I know it’s a scam, but it could easily frighten others, especially the more vulnerable folk. Got a call from this number on Saturday around 2.37pm. There was so much noise in the backgroud that I couldnt make out what the person was saying, their voice was really faint.

Definitely a scam - they're attempting to fool you into sending money to Shell Energy, and they've given a Barclays bank account number. DO NOT RESPOND OR SEND ANYTHING!!! If you get a letter like this, I'd say take it to your local bank so they can freeze the account.

Just to add, theres a huge mess coming out now about what’s gone on over the past 30 years since privatisation, especially with energy companies. Loads of dodgy and sometimes even claimed criminal stuff. The government promised decades ago there’d be a strong consumer watchdog with real teeth - able to take these companies to court and make sure customers got proper compensation. But things haven’t really turned out that way.

This is the payments team from Shell Energy. If this number has popped up on your phone, it’s probably because you’re behind on your payments or they’re ringing about your DIRECT DEBITS, either to inform you that the amount needs to go up or that it could be dropped down.

01789405060 - total scam! They claimed we owed £900 from October 2017 to April 2019. We already paid the last bill to First Utility this April tho. My husband called them and was stuck on the phone for ages, hours like! Guess what, he ended up with a £110 phone bill just from calling Shell Energy. No surprise they kept him hanging around so long. Proper con artists, honestly 😔

Got a call asking about an ex-flatmate from over six years back, who had the cheek to put my number on her First Utility bills for a place I thought she moved into after we split up. Seems like she’s not paid the bills, and the debt collectors are hassling me now. She did the same nonsense with our old landlords. The debt collectors don’t even bother to tell whoever they’re chasing next that I’m not Helen Dunsmore. Really top-notch folks all round. Best to steer clear of all of them.

First Utility, now Shell, are saying I owe over £3000 which I've been disputing for three years. This useless utility firm hasn't done a thing to fix what’s clearly their mistake. They just keep bouncing me between departments, making me go round in circles. I get called every single day from this number and it’s honestly harrassing. If you’re with First Utility, seriously consider switching to a different supplier.

Got a call from a guy with a Scottish accent saying he was with Shell or First Utility about my bill. I told him I'd switched to a different energy provider. The way he asked so many questions and didn’t really know much about my account made me a bit wary. The number did seem a bit familiar though, so I decided to ring it back. Turns out it really is First Utility/Shell, but from their late payment department.

He claimed to be from first utility but never gave me my account number, just asked for my name, address and dob. Told him to send me an email to prove where he was calling from but nothing yet. Feels like a scam to me.

Got a call around 7pm claiming to be from First Utility, saying I owed £160 because apparently, I hadn’t made any payments since Oct 2017 (if that was true, it would be way more). I told them I pay by DD, but she insisted the DD was cancelled back then. I said it wasn’t and I was still paying every month. She claimed I was wrong and started getting really rude. Then she put me through to customer services. The girl I spoke to was really nice and helpful. She asked for my account number, checked, and confirmed my payments were all up to date. She apologised and said she’d look into it.

Got a call from some utility company sayin they been tryin to get hold of me, telling me I owe them money. But I’m sure I don’t, just recently paid off my prepay meter which I’ve had for over 3 years now. It’s really stressin me out this is happening.

I used to be with First Utility, but they messed up my billing and took more than £900 from my bank without permission. I've been trying to sort it out with them for over two years now. I thought it was all sorted until a few weeks ago when they emailed me saying I owe them another £270 from way back in 2013. Since then, this number keeps ringing me loads of times each day, every single day. I refuse to answer and have told them I'll only deal with them via email, yet they keep bothering me. First Utility are useless and dodgy, I’d seriously tell anyone to get away from them.
