On 12th Feb 2019 I got a call warning me my internet and phone service was going to be disconnected that day. The caller ID showed 01784 161 374 and when I dialled *141 to check, it was the same. The person had an American accent. They hung up on me quickly but it’s clearly a scam, I bet they’ll ring back again soon.

This number rang me claiming to be from BT saying my internet was going to be cut off all day. They tried to get me to log online so they could fix it remotely or something. As soon as I heard that, I realised it was a scam and ended the call straight away. It's really scary how these people operate and they definitely should be reported.

Since yesterday morning, I've had a total of six calls from these chaps claiming to represent the telephone preference service. They were insistent that they required my debit card information for "data protection" measures. After a bit of back and forth, we decided to provide a bogus expiry date, and they promptly informed us it didn’t align with their records. We made it clear we had serious doubts about their legitimacy and instructed them not to contact us again. But honestly, I have a strong suspicion they'll be back at it soon enough!

When I asked for their number, they gave me one in the international format - 00442036211316 - which made me think they were calling from abroad. This is the seventh time in just 3 days I've had a bloke ringing me, asking about who lives at my place. I’ve gone ahead and reported it to Action Fraud at actionfraud.police.uk/report_fraud but honestly, I’m not holding my breath for any results. Even though the number on my phone looks like it’s from the UK, I reckon it’s a spoof and the call is actually coming from abroad. The UK cops don’t seem bothered about dealing with foreign calls like this anyway.

I got a call from an Asian guy saying if I paid £21, I wouldn’t get any more blocked calls. My 92-year-old mum picked up and I just hung up straight away. It’s worrying how many vulnerable folks fall for this kind of scam, they don’t understand that by sharing their address or bank info they could lose everything. I’m constantly reminding my mum to not answer unknown numbers, but she might accidentally give out personal info without even knowing. It’s really frustrating.

This number rang me no less than five times today claiming to be from some sort of telephone preference service. They kept pushing me to confirm my debit card’s expiry date and even wanted me to say my 'customer ia', which turned out to be just my sort code! When I didn’t go along with it, a supposed supervisor took over and started pushing much harder. He threatened to charge me through my phone bill if I didn’t cooperate. I told him that sounded like a threat and that I’d report him to the cops. That made him hang up straight away. Total scam artists - don’t get caught up in it!

I got a call from a bloke with an asian accent, said his name was something like Expiring. He kept asking me to confirm the expiry date on my card info they supposedly had. I told him straight up I never gave my card details to the tps and never would. The moment I refused to give the expiry date, he just dropped the call. Got a call from some bloke claiming he was from TPS, said something about my Visa card having a ‘special call blocking number’ and asked me to confirm it so he could set it up. I knew straight away it was a con, so I fed him a load of random numbers just to mess about. He tried to convince me he was blocking the calls, probably after money from an account that doesn’t even exist. When he called back, he got really rude and started threatening me. I told him I had his number and would report it to the police. After that, he just hung up, which was quite amusing.

Got a call from a bloke with an asian accent who said his name was ‘Mike’ and claimed he was from Telephone Preference Service or something like that. He actually knew my name, which threw me off at first, but I didn’t let him get through his spiel. Told him straight where to shove it. Seems like they try to trick you by using a name that's almost the same as TPS. Pretty sure he was just angling to charge me for blocking scam calls or some dodgy service!
