Got a call from 01783 775692 today, same old story. I reckon these are scam calls cos I never pick up. What’s tricky is the area code looks so similar to ours - just one number different - so I can see why some folks might get confused and think it’s someone from round here. Definitely dodgy in my opinion.

I got a call from 01783739455 but didn’t pick up. When I tried calling back, after a silent bit, an Indian woman said, “sorry, your call can’t be connected right now.” The 01783 code doesn’t exist anywhere in the UK, so obviously it’s a fake number. It should’ve shown as unrecognised when I dialled it. It’s quite concerning that these bogus numbers can still get through somehow - makes you think how careless the phone companies are being about this. Sometimes I wonder if they’re turning a blind eye because they might be benefiting from these scams?

Got calls from 01783 344511 a few times today. Each time it was an automated voice saying my internet was gonna be disconnected in a matter of hours and to press one to avoid it. I just ignored it, but I can see how some folks might fall for that and get into trouble. Definitely sounds like a scam to me.

Got a message saying I owed some cash and had to ring up to sort it out, with some pretty scary words about what would happen if I didn't. They said they’d already tried to reach me before. I haven’t borrowed a penny from anyone, so this has got to be a scam. It felt quite intimidating and could easily fool someone. I wouldn’t suggest calling them back at all.

Got a call from 01783 ### for four straight days. The bloke said he’s from British Telecom and claimed there had been some dodgy stuff going on with my internet and landline, saying they’d be disconnected soon. He told me to press 1 if I wanted to sort it out. The voice sounded like it was from Pakistan or India or somewhere around there. He started with “How you doing today?” I wasn’t exactly thrilled to hear from him, that’s for sure. Then he just suddenly hung up on me! Can you imagine that?!

What’s BT supposed to do really? If someone rings your number and your phone goes off, then BT has done their part. When calls come from abroad and use all sorts of different or even spoofed numbers, I guess there’s hardly anything they can do to stop it.

Just got a phone call from 01783-###-### claiming to be from the BT tech support. They said if I handed over my bank info and paid up, they could sort everything out for me! Had a quick look at the number and it actually traced back to Shimla, India. Seriously, don’t share your bank details with anyone who calls you out of the blue like that!

Got a call early morning, about 3am, from a bloke with an Asian accent. He claimed to be from BT and said someone was hacking my internet from around 3 to 6 in the morning. I told him my son-in-law knows all about IT stuff and then they just dropped the call. The number showed up as 01783###. Tried ringing back but the line was dead.
