I got a call from someone claiming they were giving away a free security system. I told them there's no way I'm inviting random strangers who cold called me into my home to install anything - felt really dodgy. After reading through other comments, it seems like this is probably just a scam.

Gave me a bell earlier and regurgitated the same spiel I've heard from others, pushing an alarm monitor and quizzing me on various security stuff. Upon doing a bit of digging, I discovered they're part of a security company that seems to cater to a wide range of folks, including businesses like ours. The so-called free monitor appears to be a marketing tactic to promote their services. Whether you choose to buy into it or not is entirely up to you; I’m still mulling it over myself.

I had a ring from this number earlier, and it was a woman speaking with a distinct Potteries accent. She was reciting some sort of script, attempting to pique my interest in a supposedly complimentary monitored home alarm system, claiming they were "serving my locality". I’ve learnt that when something appears too good to be true, it usually is. I chose not to engage with her, and then she simply ended the call.

Got a call from someone claiming to do a survey on my walls. Like, my walls are packed already, no room for anything else. How on earth did they even get hold of my unlisted number? Ridiculous! Honestly, some people really need to find something better to do with their time.

Got a call from some lad claiming to be from 'Safe and Secure.' I told him not to be bothering me, but he just talked over me. When I tried to say something again, he accused me of yelling at him! What a cheeky bloke. I just put the phone down on him.

I received a call about a complimentary alarm system that links directly to emergency services. When my wife answered, she mentioned that I wasn't available, and they insisted on calling us back later. Got a call earlier from someone claiming to be from Secure & Safe, saying she was following up on a leaflet dropped through my door last week. She started with scare tactics about over a hundred burglaries in the area recently, supposedly info from the police. They offer free installation, which sounded fishy already. Then I asked about the monthly fee for monitoring the alarm, and she said it starts at £15 a month! I told her we’re fine for security here and if we ever wanted an upgrade, I’d let them know - like that’s ever gonna happen. She just said all the best and hung up.

I received a rather intriguing call from this number earlier today. The woman on the line claimed to represent a firm that sells security alarm systems. Strangely enough, she already had my address and inquired whether we'd be home tonight between four and six. Quite the unexpected conversation!

Honestly, the trick that worked for me to stop those annoying calls was setting my answerphone to play Winston Churchill’s “We shall fight on the beaches” speech. The moment they hear that, they usually just hang up pretty quickly! Give it a go, it’s quite funny watching them react :-)
