Got a call from 01782692717 today. I usually just let the answerphone pick it up, then dial 1471 to see if they left a number, and check this site to see if others have reported it. If you’re fed up with cold calls, honestly just get an answerphone - saves loads of time not having to pick up. Real mates and family always leave a message, but those telemarketers never do.

Some bloke rang asking for Mr (some other name). I told him he’d dialled the wrong number, then he asked if my address was (completely different from mine). I said no again and told him he’d got the wrong number. He then said, “Well, this could be something you want to know. Do you live in the (random area)?” I told him I don’t live there, so he said sorry and hung up. After seeing what others have said about this number, I’ve just blocked it now.

Got a call from this number today but they didn’t bother to leave a voicemail, so I’m guessing it’s some kind of scam. I’m gonna go ahead and block it on my BT line now.

Didn't pick up the phone, I tend to ignore these calls nowadays, looked up the number on 1471. No voicemail left so probably nothing urgent. Guess it's the usual, like others mentioned, 'dad working nearby' or something like that. I've had calls from a daughter about her dad, or a niece about her uncle, and being on the TPS doesn't seem to stop this nonsense at all. Maybe if it snows, he won’t be about working, and we'll all get a break for once!

Got a cold call from someone saying they’d be handing out brochures because there’s building work going on nearby. Next day, two people turned up, gave me quotes for different jobs but never handed over any brochures. They quoted £300 for a roof job and asked for a deposit by cheque, but I said I preferred to pay by phone. After they left, I looked them up on Companies House and saw they’d only filed two accounts since 2015, both marked as “dormant.” No clear proof it’s a scam, but I’m not going to deal with them again. Will block the numbers just in case.

Yet another lady claiming her 'dad' is working on a building job nearby. It's funny how many 'father/daughter' building companies pop up lately! I usually ask how old the dad actually is. As soon as I do, the 'daughter' tends to hang up sharpish if you question them.

Our phone’s got that feature where anyone calling has to say who they are first unless you’ve already put them on your accepted list. From what I’ve seen in other peoples stories, we do get calls around this time each year about driveway work, window repairs and the like, so I was proper relieved to just hit decline right away this time!

Got a call from this firm asking if I wanted a brochure about building services. I told them I wasn’t interested and already have a local builder I trust. They kept pushing me for details about who my builder is and what work they do. Then, out of nowhere, they just hung up on me. Proper rude behaviour. Definitely wouldn’t suggest dealing with them if this is their style.

Probably not the smartest thing to annoy a teacher just before exams. I’m gonna look into how to complain about this firm (and also to see if they’re legit with the claims about work in the village). We’re on the TPS register and I didn’t entertain the caller much. They said the company was in Burton but the number showed Stoke - that’s like 30 miles apart.

I just got a call from this number, someone asked for me using my partners surname. I said no and asked who it was, they just said "I want to know what's going on, are you guys living together or what?" I just hung up after that.

You know it’s an unwelcome call when someone you’ve never met starts in with, “Good afternoon, Mr...” in an accent thick with the tonalities of Broad Potteries.
