I received a call from a woman who said she was representing a telemarketing company, but then she started asking for my bank information. That was my cue to end the conversation right away. I suspect it's a scam, so I highly advise against answering this number. If you do happen to pick it up, just hang up straight away!

Picked up the phone and there was complete silence on the other end.

It took ages before the caller said anything, which usually sets off alarm bells for me. After that, I caught some faint mumbling I couldn’t make out at all, and then the line just went dead.

A woman with a South Asian accent rang me up at 1:18 PM on 11th August 2017, claiming to represent a firm affiliated with the Telephone Preference Service. She asserted that they had the ability to block bothersome calls from overseas, including India. Oddly enough, she had all my details, including my name, address and telephone number. She asked what my initials stood for, which bank I used, and to provide both the start and expiration dates of my debit card. I firmly told her that I don’t discuss banking details over the phone, but I concocted some fictitious dates for a non-existent card and promptly hung up. She continued to call me numerous times, but I chose to ignore them. Eventually, she seemed to give up. Out of curiosity, I rang 1471 to retrieve the number and called it back, but surprise, surprise, there was no answer!
