I got a call from a woman claiming to be with a company offering free security gear for people over 50 in my area. I mentioned that my husband usually handles those things and wasn’t home at the time, and she just hung up on me. Bit rude if you ask me. Pretty sure it was some sort of scam anyway.

So I got a call from someone who already knew my name and where I live. They claimed to be agents doing some sort of security checks nearby. They asked if I owned the house, but when I paused and mentioned I’ve been getting lots of dodgy calls recently, they just ended the call straight away.

"I had an encounter with someone named 'Shelley' who purportedly was distributing complimentary equipment for 'police health safety' after a visit to my home. She surprisingly knew my name, which is a bit of a red flag for a scam call. At first, it seemed plausible, but when I kindly declined her offer, saying, 'I truly don’t require anything, thank you,’ the line went dead instantly. It’s quite concerning to think she might be targeting elderly folks who could find such calls quite distressing, isn't it?"

She actually started off by knowing my name and said the call was about some security issue nearby. But when I asked what company or council she was representing, the line just cut out on me.
