The second I pick up, the long silence tells me this call is doomed to end up on my block list. Right when I’m about to hang up, someone comes on, clearly mispronouncing my name like they’re reading it off a screen. It’s always some overexcited, jittery sales person from O2 trying to pitch me an “upgraded” phone deal when I’m only paying £7.50 a month already. Seriously, I’m not interested in a better plan, just stop ringing me please.

As soon as I pick up the phone, I can tell from the prolonged quiet that this one’s destined for the dreaded voicemail drawer. Just when I’m on the verge of cutting the call, it suddenly connects to someone who’s clearly got my details pulled up, yet can’t seem to pronounce my name correctly. It’s yet another overly caffeinated sales rep from O2, keen to pitch me some grand upgrade on my mobile plan, despite the fact that I barely fork out a tenner a month!
