I've registered with the Telephone Preference Service, yet I’m still inundated with nuisance calls from automated diallers. Just in the past week, I've received not one but three calls from these robotic types, calling themselves Chris and Simon, hawking roof insulation. They quoted some so-called "government agency" report, warning me that my roof supposedly has a type of insulation at risk of causing significant damp issues - think Rockwool, blanket glass fibre, you name it. Apparently, they claim to have "helped" numerous folks in my area. They were probing about whether I own my home and how old I am, whether I fall between 50 and 80 or beyond. Naturally, I took to the internet to find out the identity of these callers and unearthed that it’s a notorious cold-calling ring, all aimed at drumming up leads for “surveyors” eager to pop by for a £75 assessment (which is supposedly free for me). On their third attempt to reach me, I thought I’d have a bit of fun and engage with them (while keeping my personal information close to my chest) to discover who they were actually working for or to whom they might be selling my contact details. That’s got to be illegal, right? Lo and behold, within an hour, I received another call from 01752874676. This time it was a rather pushy representative from a local insulation spraying firm that also dabbles in solar panel installations. They boasted about having added solar energy solutions, battery storage, and electric vehicle charging points to their offerings, calling it their latest innovation with ProPerla. They prattled on about continuously seeking eco-friendly methods to help folks save money and improve their quality of life. It's quite clear they’re just opportunistic chancers, riding the latest trends to peddle their wares to unsuspecting, ill-informed members of the public - no doubt raking in quite a profit for themselves in the process.

It seemed like one of those dodgy scam calls, so I just ignored it instead of answering to arrange a time for a quote visit.

I received a call from someone claiming my insulation is outdated and they were after my name. I wasn’t comfortable sharing it, so they insisted on calling me back to arrange a visit for a survey and a quote for upgrading my loft. Not a chance, I won’t be entertaining that!

I got a phone call about getting insulation done, and they said a nearby tradesman would get in touch within half an hour. Two hours passed and my wife answered a call, but it definitely wasn’t anyone from round here. The person on the phone then asked me to spell out my last name, which was when I twigged it was just a cold call.

I've been receiving calls from a company based in Plymouth that specialises in attic insulation. Apparently, they source phone numbers through a cold-calling firm called Filitastica, which operates from the Philippines. This outfit cleverly sidesteps the UK's no-cold-calling regulations owing to their location abroad. Effectively, the Plymouth firm is exploiting this loophole to obtain our contact information. They'll dispatch a representative to your home for a so-called 'complimentary survey' of your loft, but be warned: they’ll likely push hard to sell you their insulation services.

Got a call from some loft insulation folks, they must've grabbed my number from a cold caller. Funny thing is, this spot’s only like a 10-minute drive from me.
