Here’s what I usually do: if I get a call from a number I don’t know, like this one, I just answer with ‘hello’ and don’t give my name. Most times, they ask for someone like Dave or Sean or some other name I’ve never heard of. I just say it’s the wrong number and that’s that - they have no more to say and the call ends fast. Then I block the number straight away!

Called the number back and it was some sort of pension review place. They rang me before from another number. They say they’re from the company that holds your pension and warn you need a check up on it. I get regular pension statements and told them to stop bothering me. Pretty obvious they’re just switching numbers to keep ringing.

This bloke rang me up claiming he could assist with freeing up my pensions. I asked which pensions he meant and he just replied, "If you tell me, I can sort it out for you." I told him I’m not old enough for my state pension yet and to give me a buzz in 30 years. Absolute muppet!!

These reverse phone number websites are truly brilliant; they save us from having to engage with these pesky callers. The phone calls can be rather distressing - it’s as if they’ve been drilled to parrot pre-scripted lines and rarely take “no” for an answer, always attempting to prolong the conversation. When will something concrete be done to tackle this issue legally? There are constant whispers about potential laws being introduced, yet nothing ever materialises. Doesn’t it seem rather suspicious that so many of these calls are affiliated with legal firms? After all, the legal industry is predominantly composed of those in politics, and it's unlikely they’ll pass laws that would hinder their own operations.

I got a missed call and decided to call back. Ended up talking to a lovely young woman named Lauren who said they were from Nuffield Wellbeing Gym. I told her I’m already with another gym, and she was like, alright no worries, sorry to bother me. Funny enough, I just signed up at a gym last week and had been searching for gyms nearby on Google, so maybe Google’s algorithms tipped them off about me?
