01749608007 Summary (Read all comments)

Phone number ☎️ 01749608007 👆 is reported as an automated number used by HMRC to deliver two-factor authentication codes for Government Gateway logins. Many confirm it’s genuine when expecting a security code during account access, often via landline or mobile. However, some report unexpected calls at odd hours, no messages left, or repeated silent calls, raising suspicion of spoofing or possible scams. Users who didn’t request codes suggest someone else might be trying to use their details, highlighting the importance of caution. The number typically provides a short-lived 6-digit verification code by prerecorded message. While most feedback supports its authenticity linked to HMRC’s secure login process, unsolicited calls have led to concerns of scam activity or system faults.

I had a few of my accounts compromised not too long ago, though thankfully many of them require two-step verification. But this number caught my attention since it rang me oddly in the middle of the night around 3:30 am. Seemed a bit suspicious to me.

This isn’t a scam, honestly. It’s just a callback you get when you’re using the HMRC verification app. You’ve probably asked for either a text with a code or a phone call to check your identity for the government HMRC or the one login/Authenticator app.

When you try to get into your HMRC account through the gateway, they send a call back to the phone number you provided when you first signed up. It’s an automated call that gives you a security code, which only lasts about 15 mins. So, if you ever get a call like that, just make sure it’s legit and be cautious!

Got calls from what sounded like the government gateway, but seriously, who rings at 2.30 in the morning or even 4 a.m? No way that’s legit HMRC. Plus, I haven’t gotten any emails, texts or letters warning me about anything. Feels more like a dodgy scam trying to pretend to be them.

Got three voicemails after 10:30 pm from the number 01749608007, and I’m with Three as my phone operator. The message just said something like “You have 3 missed calls...” but it always cut off halfway through. Seems dodgy to me - HMRC wouldn’t ring up that late, and why would their message be incomplete? Feels like a trick to make me ring back. If it’s really HMRC, they should just send a letter. As soon as I picked up, there was a pre-recorded message playing. I heard something about a "gateway" and a string of numbers, which seemed like some sort of code that was only valid for a short time. It sounded like they might be trying to trick folks using the HMRC name as part of their scam.

It might be an HMRC number, but why would they ring twice at 11.19pm and 11.20pm on Christmas Eve? I wasn't aware authorisation codes could come through on a landline, I always thought they only send them by text to mobiles. Either way, I avoid using HMRC online stuff now. Got a call from what looked like HMRC’s automated 2FA line the other day. Bit weird, wasn’t expecting it and wasn’t sure if it was legit or some kind of scam. Stay alert if you get a ring like that!

I reckon it’s some sort of scam, kept getting calls from this number like five times today. It just rings once and then hangs up. Really suspicious to me.

Got a missed call from 01749 608 007 on my landline on 27/08/24. No message left, and it’s probably a scam - looks like a VoIP number from Shepton Mallet or nearby. Won’t be calling back for sure.

Received a PIN check from HMRC for my Gov Gateway login through an automated call. If you’re getting this call but didn’t try to log in, looks like someone might’ve entered the wrong phone number in their account info online. Seems legit but worth double checking!

When I dialed on my landline it said the number wasn’t valid and couldn’t connect. If the callers claim to be from HMRC then it’s dodgy for sure, cos I’ve never had any dealings with them.

Received a call from this number but then the line dropped abruptly. The location linked to this is La130py, which happens to be in Cumbria. When I tried calling back, all I got was some weird hissing sound. Assuming it’s likely a scam, to be honest.

I reckon scammers might be messing with the HMRC phone system, 'cause I got a call from them sayin' they'd send me a code even though I never asked for one. I don't do self assessment, so I have no use for their gateway stuff.

I received a call from the number 01749 608007 which left a rather suspicious message regarding a security code. To my knowledge, no one in this household had asked for such information. I suspect this might be a scam call and could pose a risk. Please refrain from answering any calls from this number, and under no circumstances should you divulge any personal details. Stay safe!

I’m quite familiar with the HMRC calls about codes, but recently I got a call when I hadn’t even asked for one. Plus, loads of people have mentioned scams linked to this number, suggesting it’s being faked to slip through blocklists despite usually being a legit number.

This particular number is, in fact, an official channel employed by HMRC to send out verification codes during the login process. Nevertheless, it appears that some nefarious individuals are manipulating their calling ID to make it seem as if they’re contacting you from HMRC using this very number. Thus, I’d advise caution: only pick up the phone if you’re genuinely engaged in accessing your tax account.

Legit number here. It’s an automated message giving you a code for Govt Gateway to check your NI records or pension forecast. It rings just before the screen pops up saying you need the code, so it can catch you off guard a bit.
