Got a call yesterday from a number I didn’t know, so I just let it go to voicemail. The message was all jumbled, something about a weird bank transfer from abroad and some Amazon purchase. FYI, our phone is registered with TPS.

Some bloke rang me claiming he was with Microsoft, but I could barely catch what he was on about so I just ended the call. Then, almost straight away, I got another call from a number I didn’t recognise, and the noise in the background sounded pretty much the same.

Got a missed call and a voicemail from someone claiming to be from my bank’s fraud team about some weird activity on my account. The number looked local, but I got basically the same message from a similar local number just days ago. Pretty clear this is one of those bank scams!

Got yet another dodgy call claiming to be from Amazon. Funny how this post says most of these scams happen down south, but I’m up here in Yorkshire - right in the North East. Seems like they’re everywhere nowadays!

Like lots of folks have said before, this call came through with the same robotic pre-recorded voice and mentioned the exact same sums of money, supposedly from “Amazon”. Totally dodgy. I reckon they’re banking on the chance that a few people on their list actually shop on Amazon at all!

My missus picked up the phone, and this creepy automated voice started saying there was some dodgy business on my Amazon account involving £300 and £1100. It told her to press a button to 'cancel and talk to an agent.' She just hung up straight away. Total scam call, watch out!

I reckon it was one of those usual scam calls. The moment I picked up and casually said “hello,” they just hung up straight away. Honestly, that felt pretty rude to me, like it wasn’t anything important at all.

I got a call from 01738560120, but when I picked up, there was complete silence on the other end. I waited a bit to see if anyone would say something, but it was just quiet, then the call got cut off. Since I didn’t know the number, I found it pretty strange.

This number was totally unfamiliar to me, and I’ve got no contacts in Perth. When I answered, there was just silence - no message left on the answerphone whatsoever. Pretty clear it was just one of those automated calls! Even though I’m signed up with BT call protect and the TPS, I still keep getting unsolicited calls I never asked for. Seriously thinking about reporting this one to BT and the TPS!

The TPS scheme just blocks a small slice of genuine calls, not most of them, and doesn't touch scam calls at all. And Call Protect only catches a few scammy ones too. If you want to deal with scam calls, texts and emails, take a look at the guidance on the police Action Fraud phishing page. For calls, send a text to 7726. Same with scam texts, forward them to 7726. If you get suspicious emails, forward 'em to '[email protected]'.
