If they do manage to get hold of you, the best course of action is simply to deny any debt and promptly hang up. Honestly, it’s probably wise to just ignore them - or if you must respond, firmly state that you have no obligations to settle!

Be cautious with these individuals! They called us fishing for a whole bunch of personal information. We firmly told them where to shove it and instructed them to reach out to us at our home address instead. They claimed to have our details but insisted we hadn’t replied. We countered that they must have got the address wrong, and then we bid them farewell!
