Got a call on my BT landline, so I reported it on bt.com/scams to block and report. We need to stand together against these awful scammers, there’s loads of us doing the same. It was from Romford 01708 904030, all I got was silence then just the dial tone. Happened on 6 May 2022.

Today, my partner received a rather peculiar phone call from an Indian lady named Amber, who had quite a thick accent. She claimed to be working for some independent claims service and seemed to know his first name, which immediately raised some eyebrows. When he inquired about how she obtained his details, she became rather touchy, which only added to the suspicion. When she tried to coax him into visiting a website for more information, my partner couldn't help but chuckle and quipped about whether he should just relinquish all his passwords and PINs as well. At that point, she abruptly ended the call. She mentioned something vague about repairs related to council properties, but it definitely left us with the impression that this was nothing more than a scam.

This number rang me up, already knowing my first name. The person said they were from my housing association or the council, offering to fix any pending repairs. After checking with my housing provider, it’s definitely a scam. The bloke’s voice gave me a weird vibe. I’m in the Essex area. Someone naive or elderly might think, “Oh yeah, I do have a repair waiting,” and then they show up who knows for what. You can’t get through to this number anyway. I’d be really careful with this one.

Yesterday, I received a text from Hermes claiming I had missed a delivery at the early hour of 5.37am. It instructed me to provide my phone number and postcode to arrange for redelivery. The message appeared quite genuine, mirroring the Hermes website closely, so I went ahead and filled in my details. However, when I clicked 'continue', it prompted me to pay £1.45 for the redelivery service-at that point, I hit the brakes. A quick search revealed it was nothing but a scam. Later, I got a phone call from this same number, with the caller stating, “I’m calling regarding repairs to council properties.” As I’m not a tenant of the council, I pushed for clarification on which address she meant. She then regurgitated my postcode but, for ‘security reasons’, asked me to confirm the first line of my address. I can’t help but think it’s rather suspicious that she only had my postcode!
