Then they said my bank would automatically take £678 from it unless I got life insurance through them - I told them I already have life insurance, but they said I could cancel it right away after buying their policy and still get the £1,800 in about 15 days. It all sounded dodgy, so I just hung up. Feeling a bit silly, I looked up the number and found lots of warnings saying it’s a scam.

He said he was ringing from the Citizens Advice Bureau and claimed he was allowed to call under FCA rules. When I asked him to prove he was from CAB, he dodged the question. As soon as I said I knew he was fibbing and threatened to report him, he just cut me off.

Got a ring from someone saying I’m owed £1800 from a PPI claim way back in 2015, but they wouldn’t say which firm the claim was with. The bloke started by calling me by my first name, so I asked him what my last name was. He gave me one I haven’t gone by since 2010, so I instantly knew it was dodgy. Then they said if I cash it, the bank would take 40% unless I signed up for a life insurance. When I said no to the insurance, the bloke said he’d cancel it cos he was sorting my PPI claim.
