I never picked up 'cos I don’t recognise anyone from Southend-on-Sea. I’ve made a rule for myself to only answer if I’m waiting for a call from a strange number, otherwise I just let it ring out. If they don’t leave a voicemail, I usually just block the number straight away. Not sure if it was some kind of scam or not, but I’m not willing to risk it.

On 8th of October 2022 around 12:48pm I picked up the phone but there was no one on the other line, then the call dropped. This is actually the second instance I’ve had a call from Magrathea Telecommunications Limited, they rang me before from a different number.

I got a call from 01702 662459, looks like it’s from Southend on Sea. It rang a few times, three to be exact, and the moment I picked up, they just cut the line. I’m nearby, live in Canvey Island, so not sure if it’s a scam or some telemarketer trying to pitch stuff. Honestly, best to steer clear of that number!

Got a call from someone claiming to be with Go Solar and the Government, trying to offer help with lowering energy bills. When I asked where they were calling from, they said some international call centre in the Philippines. Didn’t sound proper, so just to be safe I blocked the number. Not totally sure if it was a scam or not though.

Got a call from some scammer pretending to be from HMRC about a tax refund. They left a voicemail that was pretty intimidating, saying I’d get arrested if I didn’t hit 1. Me and my wife thought it was best to report it to the police straight away!

Got a voicemail from an automated caller about some urgent tax matter, said I should ring them back straight away. The number belongs to a firm that sells swords, which made it all the more confusing.

I got a recorded message saying it was the last chance to deal with criminal charges for scamming the HMRC. They wanted me to phone back. When I did call, the guy just read out a generic fraud script and asked how I planned to sort it. I asked him to send me a proper letter with the details, but he just said "see you in court" and hung up on me.
