Earlier, I received a rather cheeky call from a chap enquiring about insulation for my property. I informed him that I no longer reside there, and neither of us mentioned the actual address. He then became quite flustered, asking me which address I was referring to, his tone unabashedly abrupt. In turn, I politely asked him what address he was talking about, given that he was the one ringing me about it. This seemed to ruffle his feathers, and he got quite irate, snapping back with a rather huffy remark about my voice. At that point, I chose to end the conversation by hanging up. Quite the unexpected exchange, I must say!

I never bother answering unknown numbers, 99% of the time it’s just some annoying telemarketer. I just let it ring out, then I check the number later. So far, it’s been spot on every time. Last time I did pick up, sounded like some kid trying to scam me, probably a schoolboy clueless about real life. He pretended to be from BT, telling me there was an issue with my internet and asked if he could take over my computer to fix it. I told him I’m not with BT, so it’s not their problem. As I hung up, I swear I heard him mumble something like, “Amateur.”

On the 5th of May, 2021, I received two calls that I let ring out, but on the 7th, I picked up a call from 01236 723202. A woman on the line mentioned that another person would be reaching out to provide more comprehensive information. Strangely, she seemed to know our name, address, and phone number, not to mention our insulation situation. Later, I got a call from an unidentified number, and a man claimed he was representing Energy Scotland. He insisted that our insulation was deteriorating and warned of possible issues with health and safety at home - things like dampness, respiratory conditions, and even mice infestations. He came across as rather aggressive and offered to call back that same day, to which I firmly declined and ended the conversation. It all gave me a strong impression of a scam.
