A lady on the other end claimed she was calling to see if I qualified for assistance with a new boiler installation. I inquired, quite courteously, about how she had obtained my contact details. She mentioned it was from her business's database. I then pointed out that I am registered with the Telephone Preference Service and should not receive such calls. She insisted that I must renew my registration periodically. I corrected her, explaining that this wasn’t necessary and that I’ve been on the list since the days of BT's preference service. She assured me that she would take my details off her list. However, when I tried to call the number back, I was met with a message stating there was a fault with the line! I recently got a rather dubious call from an individual supposedly located in (?) India, purporting to be from some "technical department" trying to discuss an imaginary issue with my computer. I quickly made it clear that I wasn't as gullible as he thought and firmly advised him to refrain from contacting me again; I even hinted that I might involve the authorities if this charade continued.
