Got a call from someone claiming BT messed up how they handle my personal info under GDPR. They said they’d report BT to the ICO who could slap a £10 million fine or 4% of their worldwide revenue on them. Seemed like the usual scam to me.

I’ve been getting loads of calls from different numbers recently, and when I checked this one, loads of people said it was a BT scam. I didn’t pick up this time, but I did answer the first call I got, which was probably from the same lot. Seems like this is why they were ringing me.

This number just rang me, and I'd advise against answering it as it's definitely a scam. I reached out to Virgin about it, and they confirmed it's fraudulent. They’re taking steps to report the call. I'm in Scotland.

Since I signed up for BT Call Protect, which was supposed to be free, the calls haven’t really stopped - just the same annoying ones again and again. I reckon they’re using something like Skype to fake the caller IDs, because the numbers keep switching. It’s proper frustrating, even with a phone that manages calls automatically! BT really ought to look into who’s getting their info.

Got the same sort of call as everyone else. They left a voicemail saying it was BT, but that’s just not true. I ended up deleting the message straight away. Don’t trust it - I’ve put the number on BT’s blocked list now.

Got a call from someone saying they're from Openreach, saying there was some issue with my router's security. The accent was strong and pretty hard to understand, sounded Indian. I answered a few questions, then things got weird when they asked to check my PC and wanted me to press Windows+R. I caught on something dodgy was going on, like they wanted access to my computer. I asked for a letter on official letterhead, but they just brushed it off. So I just ended the call.

Within just three hours, my phone rang four times. I ignored the first two, then picked up the third call, but there was a lady with an accent I couldn’t make out at all. Got a call from someone saying they were from BT, saying my internet was down (I’m not even a BT customer and my net was working perfectly). They wanted me to visit a site to download some software to “fix” it. I played along, pretending to fiddle with my computer, then after 20 minutes I just said, “Wait, do I need to actually turn the PC on first?” They hung up straight away. I guess I was just bored so kept the conversation going for a bit.

I got a call at 11:15 in the morning from a young woman with an East Asian accent claiming to be from BT. She started with "Good afternoon," which seemed odd for the time. So I asked her where exactly she was calling from. She insisted it was BT, but I pressed further and asked which country she was calling from. Got yet another spam ring, and as usual it was someone with an Asian accent chattering about BT Broadband. Way back, BT moved their call centres to India, and since then these nuisance calls never stop. Now it feels like BT’s cashing in again by pushing all sorts of pricey 'solutions' meant to block them. Does anyone know how much those 1471 calls to check who’s dialling are running us? Reporting doesn’t do much anyway since they just keep cycling through fresh numbers non-stop. It’s truly annoying.
