Ringing back unfamiliar numbers is honestly a bad idea. Only those who are really clueless or overly trusting would even consider it. You might end up in a right mess, especially if you’re not familiar with the tricks scammers use. This kind of scam has been shown on loads of TV programmes about phone fraud over the years. If a supposed bank calls out of the blue, it’s probably a scam, but don’t just hang up - make sure the line’s completely dead first. Then, use the phone number printed on your bank card or dial 159 to contact your bank. Following this could save you a fortune!

Got a call from a robot-like lady saying my account got hacked and there were two weird charges - one from Amazon and the other some foreign money transfer. She gave me a number to ring back but I just hung up. Thing is, the call came from my own area code, and when I tried to dial back, the number showed up as unknown. Bit fishy if you ask me.
