There’s a group operating internationally doing people trafficking and selling illegal stuff, using fake phone numbers like 01663761697 and other numbers starting with 01663. This afternoon, I was contacted by the number 01663761697, claiming to conduct a survey regarding water usage. As I'm registered with the BT call preference service, I shouldn't have received such a call, so I decided to hang up. Interestingly, I had a similar call from the same number just yesterday, on the 18th of October at 6:41 PM. I'm really hoping this isn't a recurring situation, as I have a strong suspicion that it's some sort of scam.

I received a phone call purporting to be from some kind of water supply regulatory body, requesting that I partake in a 10 to 15-minute survey regarding my water supplier. Oddly, they couldn't even tell me which supplier I was using, which struck me as rather peculiar since there's essentially a monopoly where I live. When I pressed for some form of verification, there was a noticeable pause and the caller appeared flustered, relying on fillers like "let me check" and "erm", which only added to my suspicions. It's quite clear that if this were a legitimate national regulator, they would have proper verification measures in place. As such, I firmly believe this is a scam.

Just got a call from 01663761697, a woman claiming to be doing a Prudential survey. She knew my name but then suddenly said she’d ring back later and cut off. Not sure if it’s legit or not.

Got a call on my landline from some bloke called Rand. Said it was a survey about how safe people in Greater Manchester feel. The guy spoke really slowly and his voice was proper odd, a bit creepy even. Could easily scare someone who’s more vulnerable. Ended up hanging up straight away.
