After she greeted her with a “Hello”, the caller ominously remarked, “That’s the worst thing you could have done, that,” before promptly disconnecting the line. We can only speculate that she was alluding to my wife having actually answered the phone, which feels rather unsettling. Even though we’re registered with the Telephone Preference Service, we still get bombarded with around five or six calls daily from a variety of numbers. Typically, the caller ID shows them as either International, Withheld, or Out Of Area. However, this particular number has already made two appearances today - the first call at about 12.45 p.m., during which we were out (no message left, of course), and then the bizarre encounter later on. When they asked if I would like to start repaying it now, I politely declined-after all, I wasn’t about to pay for someone else's debt. The caller was persistent, stating someone had to foot the bill, but I firmly repeated my stance.
