It's rather perplexing that despite everyone realising there’s a problem with this number, nothing seems to be done about blocking or reporting it. This number has been incessantly ringing our phone three or four times in the evening, which is quite maddening. When we were with O2, we contemplated ending our contracts altogether, as we have absolutely no desire to be associated with their service any longer. To whomever it may concern, 01642 684 739, do us a favour and stop ringing our phone - this is nothing short of harassment!

Has anyone else noticed that it seems to start charging you the moment you return the call?

We received a call from this number, which was a bit odd - it was silent for around half a minute before they hung up. I can't help but wonder if it might be a university lecturer since we're students at Teesside University. Thankfully, we decided to look up the number first, or we might have ended up calling them back! Not a peep since then, though. Quite the mystery!

I received a call from this number but couldn't pick up in time. When I called back, I was told it was O2 reaching out regarding a potential upgrade. I asked them to send me the information via email, and they assured me they would. However, nothing ever landed in my inbox. So, I contacted O2 directly, and they told me they don't make unsolicited calls about upgrades, especially since I'm not even in the market for one right now. I also wanted to check if I was charged for that call, but thankfully, it came from my free minutes so all's well on that front.

We just called this number back after they abruptly dropped the line as soon as we answered. It felt a bit dodgy, to be honest. The gentleman on the other end claimed he was contacting us on behalf of one of her associates regarding our O2 contract. As soon as we mentioned that we didn’t actually have an account with them, he apologised for the inconvenience and promptly hung up on us. Quite the hassle, really!

I received a call that I missed, so I decided to return the call. I was greeted with a message saying, "we're trying to connect you," and then I was plummeted into a series of odd calls. After a couple of them, we chose to hang up. It’s quite likely a bit of a scam, if you ask me.

Received a call on our landline today. We answered, but there was utter silence from the other end, and then they promptly hung up. Quite bizarre!

It might be worth mentioning that we have experience with O2 spanning several years. You’ll find that these folks might give you a bell about potential upgrades, typically around a week or so prior to the end of your contract. Just make sure to pose a question that only they can answer-something like, "What was our last bill amount?" Keep in mind that the caller is likely working on commission, so they tend to play along as best as they can when it suits them.

17:13 on the 15th of April, 2009. Absolutely. They rang and then hung up before we had a chance to answer. Why on earth can’t these jokers be barred from the networks? It’s quite maddening!

Rang our mobile and hung up the moment we answered. Not really worth the hassle, to be honest.

Received a call from this number, and as soon as we answered, they hung up on us. It's exactly the same scenario we had last month with a similar call. Seems like a dodgy operation to me, so I won’t be bothering to answer if they try again!

This number gave us a bell at half three in the morning! We were far too knackered to pick up and now we’re a tad wary about ringing back. I can't shake the feeling it might have been me who gave out our digits during a wild night out. Do you think it’s some sort of sales call? Quite the mystery!

I received a call from this number and decided to look it up to find out who was on the other end. Lo and behold, it turns out to be a scam! Be cautious and don't bother responding to these calls; given the looming credit crunch, we certainly don't need any extra trouble! Ha!

Received a call on our mobile around half five today, which rudely stirred both us and our little one from our peaceful slumber! I tried to return the call later, but was met with a message saying they were trying to connect us, so I decided to hang up instead. Quite the nuisance!

Received a call on my mobile, but they hung up before I could pick up. I called back thinking it might be important, but ended up on hold and then the line went dead.

The moment we returned the call to these scoundrels, shortly after receiving a notification about our call being redirected, we ended up speaking to a young lady who inquired whether we possessed any credit cards or hire purchases, claiming to represent some sort of credit organisation. Clearly, it was an attempt to fish for information. I'll be sending their details to the authorities and would advise everyone else to do the same if you find yourself approached by these foul creatures.

This number buzzed our mobile, ringing through a couple of times before cutting off. When we attempted to return the call using a line that costs us nothing, we got connected to something called 'Mobiles for free.' Honestly, we’re not convinced it’s worth our time.

I'm really chuffed that we decided to look up this number and found this site. Fortunately, we didn’t overlook the call since our phone is right beside us. While we were working on the computer, we thought we’d give it a whirl! Now we know it's best to just avoid these calls from now on. Our previous phone line had such an outdated directory that we could simply jot down the number!

It seems we've had a rather peculiar experience with these callers. They hung up the moment we answered, which was quite odd. When we tried calling back, a rather automated voice prompted us to hold on while it connected us - it just rang and rang thereafter. We've encountered this sort of thing previously, where it felt like we were being hooked in just to line their pockets with charges while we waited. We promptly ended the call and would strongly recommend that anyone else facing a similar situation do exactly the same. Better safe than sorry, I'd say!

I experienced this peculiar silent call recently. They tried to reach us the other day, but unfortunately, we weren't available to answer. Then, I received another call this afternoon, but it was just crickets on the line. Quite strange, especially considering our contract with O2 is nearing its conclusion. How on earth do these callers know about our impending contract expiry? I’m pretty certain I haven’t consented to O2 sharing our details with any third parties. Or have I unwittingly allowed that to happen?
