They ring up pretending to be from a phone provider called Lime and convince folks to give their bank info to set up a direct debit. You can't really tell who they are, but they mainly prey on elderly people who might not realise what’s happening. If they’re legit, they really should sort out their online info because right now it comes off as a scam. Plus, they phone people out of the blue with no warning. I’m writing this as someone who works at a BT call centre, and I hear complaints about this all the time.

Got a call from someone named Lilly claiming to be from Openreach, trying to get me to switch to digital. She kept insisting it wasn’t a sales call, but then went on about how much cheaper it would be compared to what we’re currently paying. When I mentioned the 2-week cooling off thing, I said I’d ring BT to double-check because it felt dodgy. Turns out it was a complete scam. BT only send letters, they don't ring you up. Be careful out there!

Got a call from a woman rambling about switching up my phone bill. She kept saying I’d still be with Open Reach, but the billing company name was changing or something. All about this so-called digital switch - total scam if you ask me.

At precisely 11:47 this morning, a person on the line introduced themselves as representing Openreach. They mentioned that Openreach would be stepping in for BT, assuring me that there would be no alterations to my service, and that it would even be more affordable. When I proposed that it would be best to receive the details via email instead, there was a sudden click, and I found myself speaking to thin air.

She told me she was from some utility firm, but I didn’t quite hear the name properly. The call was about changing over to a digital phone line. She went on about how my bills would go down and that the only thing changing would be the name printed on the bill. Feels like they’re trying to use this whole move from old-style analogue lines to digital as a sneaky scam to catch people out.

This woman just wouldn’t shut up, kept pushing and didn’t seem interested in what I was saying. She kept going on about paying £30 a month, £100 back over a year, and £250 for landline calls yearly. She kept insisting it was Openreach, but it sounded dodgy to me so I just hung up.
