A gentleman with an Asian accent introduced himself as part of a lifestyle survey and wanted to ask me three questions. He immediately probed for my name, confirmed my address as 1 Royal Ride, and even recited my postcode, PO18OX. I responded in the affirmative and then he asked whether my home was rented or owned. I told him he had exhausted his three questions, but he merely chuckled and continued his rapid-fire inquiry. Suddenly, he was off on a tangent, asking whether I had life insurance, who my electricity provider was, and even the brand and age of my washing machine. He also attempted to solicit donations for a couple of charities I’d never heard of and tried to entice me with new phone contract offers, spouting a myriad of other random sales pitches. Whenever I declined, he’d respond with, “Don’t worry. We won’t take anything from you now. Just mull it over, and I’ll have them ring you later,” as if he was reading from a script. It’s clear he’s passed my details on, as I've since been bombarded with calls from other companies. A will and estate service from Gillingham tried to reach me, and I’ve received four consecutive calls from someone claiming to be a ‘representative’ of Great Ormond Street Hospital, who wasn’t even affiliated with the charities he mentioned. Just yesterday, another call came in from someone apparently representing 3, targeting non-customers with offers of fantastic deals on SIM cards, phones, and broadband. Exercise caution with these calls, as they can get quite pushy and may indeed have your real information.
