Today I got a phone call from someone claiming to be the passport office. I honestly thought it was the upgrade team I was waiting to hear from, so I ended up giving them my date of birth and address. After realising it was dodgy, I checked the number and loads of people said it’s a scam. I’ve reported it to the police now because this info could be used to fake passports. I’m absolutely livid about it - why can’t the government crack down on these scammers for good?

Got a call from this number claiming to be the passport office. They said I reported a lost passport back in 2019 when I moved house. When I asked whose passport they were talking about, they wouldn’t tell me, and never even asked for my name. Definitely sounds like a scam to me. Watch out for calls from this number!

Surprisingly, this number really does belong to NHS Blood and Transplant. They tend to ring you if you’ve put yourself forward to donate blood plasma after having had COVID-19. The caller might not even realise the call is showing up on a local 01633 Newport number. They ask loads of personal questions ‘for your own safety’, but won’t give you anything in return to confirm they’re legit, making it all feel a bit dodgy. Honestly, it’s poor practice and I think the NHS should rethink how they do this urgently. If you’re unsure, just phone them back on their official 0300 123 23 23 number. Eventually, they did provide me with my ‘Donor ID’, which made me confident they were genuine, especially after they told me when I last donated. Still, I’ve put in a formal complaint because the way they present themselves over the phone is too similar to scammers trying to steal your details.
