The chap had no clue about the person he was supposed to be contacting, nor did he seem aware of the company he represented. He went on about water rates and drainage issues as if it was all perfectly normal.

Absolutely a con! They pretended to be from a water company, claiming there was some ‘drainage problem’ and that we were owed a refund for overcharges. They insisted on speaking to the account holder but seemed completely clueless about our name and address or even who our water supplier is. When I probed further about their location, they abruptly cut the line. Quite the dodgy operation!

The call didn’t get answered, but it appeared as if they were tethered to the line. After a bit of a struggle, I finally managed to hang up.
