Today, 12/03/15, I got a call from a man who spoke with an Asian accent about some kind of lottery group. When I asked how they got my phone number, they said it was from an online contest. I told them I never enter online contests and that I wasn’t interested. I then asked for their details, but they just ended the call.

Today, I answered a call from this number which said they were offering me a new Mastercard. I have no clue how they knew my name, but I never gave it to them. The caller stayed silent until I said 'hello'. I thought it was safe to pick up since the number started with 0161... Anyway, as soon as I realised it was just a telemarketing scam, I ended the call straight away.

Whenever I get calls like this, I just say the property is rented out. These scammy firms normally hang up straight away 'cos they reckon landlords won't bother with expensive boiler replacements. On one recent call, I reckon it was from this particular lot, though there’s a few similar ones about, the person on the phone asked if I could give them the landlord’s number. I told them I don’t hand out private details to strangers, especially annoying cold callers, and that was the end of it.

I just got a call from a company apparently local to Manchester, where I live. They were offering a new boiler, which is something I’d actually be interested in. The chap asked if I was the homeowner, and I told him I’m a tenant. He just said “Alright, no problem” and hung up before I could tell him that my landlord has already given the go-ahead for a new boiler as long as it’s free. We never really got to that part! Also, he was speaking so loudly I had to ask him to stop shouting - wasn’t easy to hear otherwise!

Got a call earlier about some boiler stuff and government rules. They mentioned an old address of mine from like eight years back, and then claimed I never even owned that place. They then pressed me for my current address but I told them no thanks, cause if they can’t even get the basics right, I’m not interested. DON'T TRUST THIS! Got a call today, 30 July 2014, from a company calling themselves Pension Watch. They said they’re in South Africa but the call came through a Manchester number. Funny enough, this exact phone number has been linked to boiler sales calls before. It’s definitely just a call centre. They had my full name and address straight away. When I asked how they knew about my pension, they claimed they’d accessed some public database that shows who contributes to or draws from private pensions. They said they wanted to help me check if my pension was getting the best returns. Sounds like a dodgy trick to make folks switch their pension over to some scammer’s scheme. Definitely a scam.
