Got a call earlier today that proper freaked me out! Some bloke telling me there's a warrant for my arrest and saying he was from HMRC, claiming I owed loads of money. I saw a comment last week suggesting folks should get a really loud whistle and blow it right in the scammers ear - supposedly that'll make them think twice before calling again. Yesterday at 5.47pm, a fella called my brother who’s only 17 and struggles with mental health issues, saying HMRC are taking legal action against him. All you get on the other end is a voicemail asking for your name and number. Whatever you do, don't provide any information; that only aids their dubious activities. Today my husband got a couple of automated phone calls claiming to be from HMRC, warning that if we didn’t press 1 to respond, the police would be involved. Then another one called saying something about a solicitor and an arrest warrant. We haven’t responded to any of them. Just now, I received a third call telling me to press 1 to talk to a case officer. Funny thing is, the number showed up with a local 0161 code but also flagged as international. Since when does the Inland Revenue ring from overseas? It’s proper scary. I’m thinking of reaching out to the fraud squad once I’m back from walking the dog. I heard somewhere that foreign firms are buying UK phone numbers to make it look like the calls come from here. The pre-recorded voice sounded so odd, like someone mashed together bits of speech rather than a real person talking.

I honestly don’t know how people can stoop even lower than this. Calling the person behind this scam a “human” feels like a compliment, honestly. If they’re somehow checking out these comments, assuming they can actually read, that is. Got a scam call again, this time pretending to be HMRC with some scary threats. Best thing to do is just hang up and don’t press any buttons when they ask. Makes me worry about how an older person might cope with that kind of call.

0161 850 8612 keeps calling me, said it was HMRC. Got the call twice today & loads of times over the last few weeks. Just hang up straight away. DONT BOTHER replying.
