This number kept leaving me the exact same automated message multiple times over the course of a few weeks. I didn’t fall for it and never hit 1 to talk to their “case officer” - seemed like a total scam to me. Plus, it’s against the rules since it’s breaching the telephone preference service and pretending to be from HMRC is illegal. I actually called them back and left a message telling them to cut it out and stop ringing me constantly.

Got a robo call allegedly from HMRC claiming they’d been attempting to contact me and threatening legal steps - no clue if it was for me or someone else. I’m thinking of reporting it to the ICO (and maybe HMRC too, so they might add a warning on their site?). Totally with the previous commenter about Action Fraud’s site being a waste. You’re only allowed to complain if you’ve actually been scammed already, not just to warn them about these dodgy calls targeting easy marks. Seems like “prevention is better than cure” isn’t their motto at all.

In the end, it felt like a complete waste of time, especially since I never got the report confirmation they promised. Has anyone else given that site a go? Am I just unlucky? For the past couple of days, my mum has been getting calls from this number claiming to be from HMRC, saying there’s an issue with her tax code and asking her to press 1 to speak to someone. Lucky she hung up straight away both times since she’s well aware not to share any personal info or press any buttons during suspicious calls. Honestly, these kinds of calls need to be shut down - they’re just chasing trouble.

This number has been ringing me twice now, yestarday and again today, with some automated message saying HMRC is suing me. Does anyone know how or where I can report this? I worry about anyone vunerable answering and pressing 1 like they say. What could happen then? Would be good to stop this scam before it traps someone.

16/08/22. I sent off my self assessment online that morning. Later in the afternoon, I got a call saying I was going to court for not paying tax. Pretty frightening! Do they really think I hadn’t sorted it? Definitely a scam.

Got a voicemail from a recorded voice saying HMRC was about to take legal action against me. Got really stressed at first, but something felt off so I checked online and found loads of others getting the exact same message. Definitely a scam!

Got a recorded man saying something about HMRC taking me to court, said to press 1 to reach an officer. I did press it, heard some busy background noise for a bit then the call ended. The number showed up as 0161 850 8563. Now the tricky bit is actually getting hold of HMRC to let them know about this!

Just got a call saying HMRC is taking me to court and to press 1 to talk to my case worker. Didnt press it of course but it still freaked me out a bit. Poor people who might be more vunerable could be really scared by this. So i wrote down the number and googled it, turns out loads of others got it too!

So, I got a call starting with "This is an official call ..." and they claimed HMRC were suing me, telling me to press a button to talk to my case manager. HMRC never rings, they always send letters. The tone was pretty harsh, probably quite frightening for lots of people.

dodgy calls, mhrc scam is a real thing. my gran got one and said it was proper frightening - best to just ignore anything from hmrc, if they want you, they’ll send a letter. plus, they’re so busy they can’t even answer the phone properly.

Don’t fall for this scam, it’s not really HMRC calling. They wouldn’t send an automated message saying you’re about to be sued. Just ignore it and don’t hit any buttons, especially not 1. Best thing to do is to report the number straight away.

Got a call from this number at 6:23pm on 22/08/2016. Honestly, it's annoying that this keeps happening. If so many folks are moaning about this number, why hasn't anything been done about it? My advice is to grab yourself an ALL IN ONE CALL BLOCKER and just smash the big red button - after that, they won’t be able to bother you anymore.

hmrc's chasing a fraud case linked to someone here, but it was done on my elderly parents phone, and they’re both in their 80s, so it’s quite worrying really.
