Phone number ☎️ 01618508563 👆 is reported as a persistent scam calling from a UK number, impersonating HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and falsely claiming to be taking legal action or filing lawsuits against recipients. The automated messages pressure individuals to press a number to speak to a "case officer," often followed by requests for personal details like National Insurance numbers. Many reports highlight the distress caused, especially to elderly and vulnerable people, with calls often featuring foreign accents or abrupt hang-ups if questioned. HMRC does not contact individuals by phone in this manner but instead uses official letters. Authorities and phone providers are urged to take stronger action to halt these calls, which breach multiple regulations and cause undue anxiety. Vigilance is advised: do not answer or engage with these calls.

I've had multiple occurrences of an identical pre-recorded message from this number over the past few weeks. I've never fallen for their trick by pressing 1 to supposedly connect with my "case officer," as it's glaringly a scam. It's also worth noting that they're violating the telephone preference service regulations and it's illegal to pose as an HMRC official. I called them back and left a message clarifying this and demanded they cease their incessant calls.

I just got a robocall saying "HMRC is taking legal action against you" and then it said press 1 to speak to them. Honestly, why can't BT or Virgin just block these obvious scam calls? It's so frustrating. Phone companies need to get their act together and keep us safe from these dodgy calls.

This number rang me yesterday and honestly scared the life outta me. They didn’t say who at HMRC was supposedly taking legal action, but it still got me really worried and upset. I rang back this morning to find out what was going on, but as soon as I began to explain I’d been called, they just hung up. Then it hit me - total dodgy lot. Proper wicked people. I’m honestly feeling like I’m gonna have a heart attack now.

I received an automated call purportedly from HMRC, claiming they’d made several attempts to reach me and that legal action was looming - not quite sure what that's about. I’m thinking of flagging it with the ICO and maybe even HMRC, so they can alert others on their site. I resonate with the earlier comments regarding the ineffectiveness of the Action Fraud platform. It seems the only way to report anything is if you’ve already fallen victim to fraud, rather than being able to report ongoing threats that could ensnare unsuspecting individuals. Clearly, they don't subscribe to the notion that it's wiser to prevent than to rectify.

A text message was left on my 80-year-old mum's phone on the 23rd of August at 17:06. It alleged that HMRC was about to take legal action against her and instructed her to call 1 to chat with a 'case officer.' Clearly a scam. It's baffling that this number is still operational. I've stumbled upon numerous similar complaints online regarding it.

Got the same call as everyone else here. They said HMRC is suing me, but there’s no way HMRC would leave a message like that. It’s obviously a scam, and loads of people have said the same thing on this site. Surely something can be done to put an end to these scams?

They rang my 77 year old mum and tried to scare her by claiming she was facing legal action from HMRC. A lot of older folks might not understand these are just scams and it can make them anxious or scared to pick up the phone at all. Is there any way to get this number shut down for good?

This afternoon, around 4 o'clock, my elderly father received a phone call from this number on Bank Holiday Monday. Thankfully, I happened to be visiting! I reassured him that HMRC would only contact him via letter, not over the phone, should there be any concerns. I advised him not to divulge any personal details if he received further calls from them. Although he did press 1, the line went dead after that. I’m just grateful I was there to support him! It’s truly a shame that these unscrupulous individuals resort to such underhanded tactics to trick our older folks. Once again, I’m so relieved I could step in and clarify to my dad that it was indeed a scam.

01618508563 - This morning, I received a couple of obviously dodgy calls from this number. It featured one of those awful 'text-to-speech' recordings claiming to be from HMRC, alarmingly stating that legal proceedings were underway against me. The message urged me to hit 1 immediately to speak to my so-called case officer. It's truly despicable how these criminals target vulnerable individuals like the elderly or those who are unwell. In an effort to report it, I turned to actionfraud.police.uk, but what a complete letdown that site turned out to be. It was nearly impossible to navigate and after spending an agonising hour and a half wrestling with it just to share my experience, I felt like I’d achieved nothing. Moreover, I didn’t receive the promised copy of my report, leaving me wondering if my efforts were in vain. Has anyone else managed to file a report through that site? Am I the only one facing these hurdles? Give it a go and let me know how you get on!

I had a call on the 25th of August at half past five in the afternoon. The caller mentioned something about a lawsuit in their message. I've received a couple of calls from this number throughout the week. We reached out to HMRC to flag the issue, and they advised us to report it to Action Fraud. This morning, the scammers rang again, and I decided to pick up. After an automated message, an individual with an Asian accent came on the line, immediately asking for my national insurance number. I hung up right away, as HMRC never communicates via automated calls like that.

My folks have been inundated with daily phone calls claiming there’s a lawsuit pending against them. It's really rather alarming! Does anyone know how we can put an end to these pesky automated messages on the other end of the line?

Received a call from this number earlier today, on the 23rd of August at 17:36. It was a recorded voice informing me that HMRC was initiating legal proceedings against me, instructing me to press 1 to connect with a case officer. I chose to ignore their call. Later on, out of curiosity, I rang them back, but was met with a recorded message delivered in what appeared to be an Asian accent, simply telling me to "leave a message." Definitely a scam!

I received a call from this number today, 23rd August, marking the second time they've got in touch. It was an automated message claiming that HMRC was initiating legal proceedings against us, urging me to press 1 to connect with our 'case officer'. It's clearly a scam, as the phrasing "taking out a lawsuit" is not something HMRC would ever say.

Got a call today that was much like the others I’ve had, except the person spoke quite well but not very clearly. They told me to press 1 to talk to my case worker, so I did, but then the line just went dead. I rang back, but got told to leave a voicemail - decided not to bother, since if they really wanted to speak to me, leaving a message seems pointless. Besides, I have no idea what I’d even say! I’m sure they’ll try again though. This kind of call could be harmful, especially for vulnerable folks who might get really anxious about it, so I’m marking it as dangerous.

We've been receiving similar calls, claiming there's some legal action being taken against us! I've tried blocking the number, but they continue to ring incessantly. It's rather concerning, especially for the elderly or those who live alone.

HMRC said they would take legal action against me, but from what I’ve read in earlier posts, it’s clear this is just a scam.

Just like all the other times, HMRC phoned my 87 year old mum threatenin legal action. I called them back a few times and everytime I asked questions, they just cut off. On the last call, when I said I'd call the cops, the bloke swore at me and hung up. The number they used was 01618508563.

I received a recorded message claiming they'd been attempting to contact me. This is simply not the case, and there were no missed calls on my voicemail. It's a particularly vile scam, especially for older individuals who might fall prey to such tactics. These crooks need to be dealt with swiftly before they can deceive anyone else.

Ring them back and sort it out. You think I’m gonna fall for some dodgy HRMC robot sending fines? Not a chance.

My dear mother, who is rather advanced in age, has received two back-to-back calls from this particular number over the last couple of days. The callers claim to be from the Tax Office and are insisting on discussing her tax code, urging her to press 1 to carry on. Thankfully, she wisely hung up both times, as she’s well aware not to divulge any personal details or engage further by pressing any digits when those dodgy calls come through. It's vital that these types of callers are put to an end.

I received a call from this number yesterday and once again today, playing a pre-recorded message about HMRC supposedly pursuing legal action against me. I'm quite anxious about how to go about reporting this number-who exactly should I contact? I'm particularly worried for anyone who might be susceptible to falling for this scam. What on earth could happen if someone innocently pressed '1' as they were directed to do?

16/08/22. I sent off my self assessment online that morning. Later in the afternoon, I got a call saying I was going to court for not paying tax. Pretty frightening! Do they really think I hadn’t sorted it? Definitely a scam.

Got a voicemail from a recorded voice saying HMRC was about to take legal action against me. Got really stressed at first, but something felt off so I checked online and found loads of others getting the exact same message. Definitely a scam!

Got a recorded man saying something about HMRC taking me to court, said to press 1 to reach an officer. I did press it, heard some busy background noise for a bit then the call ended. The number showed up as 0161 850 8563. Now the tricky bit is actually getting hold of HMRC to let them know about this!

Can anyone shed some light on what occurs if you press the number 1?

Just got a call saying HMRC is taking me to court and to press 1 to talk to my case worker. Didnt press it of course but it still freaked me out a bit. Poor people who might be more vunerable could be really scared by this. So i wrote down the number and googled it, turns out loads of others got it too!

I received a call that started with the phrase, "This is an official notification..." and then claimed that HMRC was initiating legal proceedings against me. They instructed me to press a button to connect with my case manager. It's worth noting that HMRC never makes phone calls; they always communicate in writing. The tone of the caller was quite menacing, which could understandably frighten a lot of people.

Got a voicemail claiming that HMRC is taking legal action against me - he said he was calling from the Inland Revenue. Isn’t that basically fraud right from the start? Could really scare someone who’s a bit too trusting.

This is definitely a fraudulent call. HMRC would never employ an automated system to communicate such serious matters, particularly something as alarming as a lawsuit against you. Avoid engaging with them or pressing any numbers on your keypad. It's best to simply report the number and move on. Stay vigilant!

I've just had yet another dodgy phone call from someone masquerading as HMRC, claiming they're about to take legal action against me. It's absolutely disgraceful! These sorts of calls can really unsettle and frighten our older and more vulnerable citizens. It's high time we did something about these deceitful charlatans and their underhand tactics.

On the evening of the 22nd of August, 2016, precisely at 18:23, we received a call. It’s baffling-just like previous comments suggest, these unsolicited calls should definitely not be occurring. It leaves one scratching their head as to why or how this persists, especially when so many others are voicing their grievances about the same number. It seems odd that no action has been taken. If you're fed up as well, I highly recommend investing in a comprehensive call-blocking device. Just hit that massive red button and you’ll be rid of the nuisance for good!

hmrc's chasing a fraud case linked to someone here, but it was done on my elderly parents phone, and they’re both in their 80s, so it’s quite worrying really.
