Got a call from 0161 850778 with the same old spiel about HMRC taking legal action against me and to press 1 to talk to my case handler. Immediately got suspicious 'cause (a) my number's ex directory and HMRC wouldn’t have it (b) ‘Lawsuit’ sounds very American and (c) why would any government agency leave a voicemail about court stuff instead of sending a letter? I ended the call right after they said press 1 to chat with my case officer.

Just as others have mentioned, I had a call from this number too. When I dialled it back, it turned out to be unrecognised, making me realise it was likely a scam. Upon returning home from a spot of shopping, I encountered some extremely upset neighbours, both in their nineties, who informed me that this number had tried to reach them. They had called ‘1’, as instructed, but got no response. I reassured them it was just a scam and eventually managed to soothe their worries. The police later confirmed they’d received reports of numerous similar calls that day. It’s quite alarming how they seem to be preying on the elderly, which is utterly disgraceful. It would be great to see these scammers identified and dealt with posthaste.

Received a rather dodgy call myself from the same number - a rather posh female voice that came across as rather robotic. We've taken the precaution of blocking that number. Earlier today, we also blocked the number 01202501746, as it delivered the identical script, down to the very last word. Best advice? Don’t bother answering. I have no idea what was going on but it looked like someone had attempted to cut the line. Eventually I got it sorted by taking out the batteries and putting them back in. Pretty clear scam cos when others answered they said it was someone from HMRC. No chance HMRC would call me about money owed as I receive a pension from them and even got a refund recently. My husband actually used to be one of their senior officers.

They claimed to be HMRC and mentioned ‘taking legal action’ against me. It was a voicemail. If HMRC were after me, a) they’d send a letter, not call, and b) they wouldn’t use the term ‘legal action’, sounds more American. Total scam, steer clear.

Received a call today claiming there was a pending court matter and asking if I'd like to chat with a case officer. I tend to let calls ring through first so I can filter them out, and it turns out this was definitely a dodgy call.
