I got a call a moment ago saying HMRC is about to sue me, which totally freaked me out at first! Then I remembered I don’t owe them or anyone else a penny. I’m tempted to ring them back and give the poor scammer a proper earful with some choice language, haha. These scammers are the worst. Avoid picking up this number, they pretend to be from HMRC or the tax office. It’s a total scam. They say you owe taxes and even threaten with arrest warrants. Then they’ll try to get you to buy iTunes gift cards and ask for the codes over the phone. Don’t fall for it!

So my missus got a call from this number and accidentally pressed 1. The person on the other end said they were from the tax authorities and already had her name, address and birthday. Then they asked for her National Insurance number, but luckily she didn’t give it and they just ended the call. Pretty clear scam if you ask me.

It’s quite frustrating that the Telephone Preference Service isn't able to block these kinds of calls effectively. Clearly, we ought to implement a far more reliable solution to tackle this issue.

Got a voicemail from some lot claiming to be from HMRC saying they’re taking legal action against me. Freaked out a bit and called back, ended up chatting with a bloke named Peter Wilson. Weird thing is, he sounded like he was somewhere really noisy and had an Asian accent. He wanted my NHS number, but I told him there’s no way I’m handing out personal info on the phone. Then I just ended the call. Don’t bother calling back - I’ve blocked 0161 850 7033 now.

I just got a voicemail from this number claiming to be from HMRC, instructing me to press 1 to get in touch with my case officer. There's absolutely no chance I’m going to engage with that! It’s clear as day that it’s a scam. No legitimate organisation would reach out like this. Best to stay away!

Got a call from this number earlier, but I didn't pick up straight away so it went to voicemail. They asked me to press 1, claiming it was the tax office chasing me for unpaid taxes. When I asked for proof, the call just got cut off. Tried ringing the tax office myself afterwards but no luck getting through. Pretty relieved I looked it up here first, was starting to get really worried.

I got a call with that same pre-recorded message they mentioned. I ended up pressing 1 and then a bloke answered, sounded maybe Asian.
