01618505897 Summary (Read all comments)

Phone number ☎️ 01618505897 👆 is reported as a persistent and distressing scam impersonating HMRC, using automated calls to intimidate recipients with threats of legal action and lawsuits related to tax evasion. Callers often ask victims to press a number to speak to a “case officer” or provide personal information such as National Insurance or bank details, which should never be shared. Many describe the calls as aggressive, employing foreign-accented voices, and targeting vulnerable individuals, including the elderly. Genuine HMRC communications would not be conducted in this manner, nor would they issue urgent threats via phone. Reports urge recipients to hang up immediately, block the number, and report the scam to Action Fraud or the official HMRC helpline for guidance. These calls exploit UK dialling codes, making them appear credible, but they are unequivocally fraudulent.

Today, I got a call from a Manchester number, 0161505897, claiming to be HMRC - obviously just a scam. Then, yesterday, I had a recorded message from a London number, 02030958274, also pretending to be HMRC. Seems like they're using a few different numbers to try and catch people out. Definitely don’t share any details with them and keep reporting these dodgy calls.

I've had calls from this number twice today, spaced out by about three hours. The first call I answered, and some bloke with a pretty threatening tone claimed HMRC was looking into me. I sussed it was a scam straight away and hung up. When it rang again, I ignored it and got rid of the voicemail left behind. It's baffling how these scammers manage to use a UK area code, making it seem like the calls could be legit.

Got a call from this number earlier, with a robotic voice warning that HMRC were about to sue me for tax fraud. It told me to press 1 to speak with the case officer. Then some bloke with an accent asked for my name, I just put the phone down. Came here to check and yep, it’s a scam. Loads of people know it’s nonsense, so why isn’t the government cracking down on this rubbish proper?

Picked up a call from 01618505897 and they said they were HMRC (yeah right). I didn’t even bother listening to the voicemail, just knew it was a load of rubbish. It’s frustrating that scam calls like this keep targeting folks who aren’t so lucky or aware. I get loads of emails claiming I’m due money and asking me to open dodgy attachments. I usually forward those to HMRC and they sort it out, but with phone calls like this, there’s not much you can do. Such a shame.

This 01618505897 called me, and the woman on the line asked for my bank details and NI number. Luckily, I was cautious and ended the call before handing over any info. She then rang back and got quite annoyed, accusing me of hanging up on a supposed HMRC worker. Thankfully, I kept my head and didn't give them my bank info. M J JONS

I received an intriguing voicemail on my answering machine on the 16th of May 2018 around 4:35 PM. The message was somewhat alarming, hinting at a lawsuit directed at me, yet it never explicitly mentioned HMRC. Just recently, my accountants got in touch, informing me that filing a tax return is no longer necessary, although I could have a minor outstanding tax balance. Could this all just be a peculiar coincidence, or is there a chance that someone is tapping into calls related to HMRC? Just wondering, Anon.

Like with other calls I’ve had, someone warned me that HMRC is planning to take me to court - I don’t even know where these scammers find people!

I received a call from this number at precisely 10:25 this morning, claiming something quite serious and urging me to press 1 to connect with a so-called Case Officer. After a moment's reflection, I decided to hang up and contact the HMRC helpline instead. They were incredibly supportive and promptly informed me that it was indeed a scam. They recommended that I report it to Action Fraud, which I promptly did. The number in question is 03001232040, and you can also report such dubious calls online.

I received a pre-recorded call claiming that HMRC is suing me and instructing me to press 1 to talk to a customs advisor. Honestly, just hang up immediately! This is an absolutely atrocious scam that needs to be reported and shut down.

Received a call claiming to be from HMRC, saying they would initiate legal action against me. They instructed me to press 1 to be connected with a case officer. However, the line dropped after just 10 seconds. What a disgusting scam!

Is there any authority that can hold those behind this to account in a courtroom, perhaps even send them to prison? This situation undoubtedly reeks of a wicked scam!

I didn’t share the details he wanted. He then mentioned that the police were en route to find me. I replied, “I'm ready for them."

It's quite alarming how distressing these scam calls can be, especially if one were to fall for their tricks. I do wonder why there isn't a system in place to banish such nefarious numbers from making these calls in the first place! Surely, it's about time something was done to put an end to this nonsense.

Much like the prior remarks, just hang up on them.

I nearly had a panic attack! Thankfully, common sense prevailed and I had a look on Google!

It appears that our experience mirrors that of many others. We were approached for details about ourselves, and my wife, upon answering, was quite distressed by the interaction.

I'm in the same boat! They claimed to be ringing from HMRC, stating there was a court case launched against me. I decided to cut the call short-no point in indulging their nonsense any longer!

So yesterday I got a call from 0161 850 3534 and I immediately blocked it. Then today, guess what? They rang from 0161 850 5897! Had to block that one as well. I’m pretty sure they'll be back tomorrow with yet another number. They really don’t give up, do they!!

My elderly father, who has a disability, was contacted by this number claiming there was a legal case against him. They falsely represented themselves as being from HMRC and demanded his National Insurance information. He wisely declined to provide any details, at which point they turned nasty, threatening that he would soon be arrested and instructing him to expect a visit from the police. It’s utterly shocking that individuals are permitted to perpetrate such scams against vulnerable members of society in their own homes. Fortunately, my father had the sense to see through their lies this time. It’s high time the government intervened to put an end to this unscrupulous behaviour!

Got this exact message on my voicemail too. Felt a bit dodgy so decided to Google the number before doing anything. Seems loads of others have had this so-called "lawsuit" warning. No clue where they got my digits from since I switched my phone contract not long ago. The number they used was 0161 8505897. Definitely creepy!

I received a rather alarming call claiming that there was an ongoing lawsuit against me linked to HMRC. The caller was of Asian descent and struggled to communicate effectively in English, introducing himself as 'Steve, my case officer.' He proceeded to ask for my personal information. I strongly advise against engaging with this number as it's clearly a scam operated by fraudsters.

I've received a rather dodgy call claiming to be from HMRC, saying there’s a case linked to my name. Strangely, I also got a similar call from an overseas number not long ago. They definitely have my details and then they proceed to ask all sorts of questions. Just a heads up, folks-it's a scam, so be on guard!

I received a rather alarming message on my voicemail regarding some legal action taken against me. Quite unsettling, to say the least! How on earth can they just do that? Not at all pleased to receive such a phone call. I ended up just removing it from my messages.

Got a call from this number around 3pm today, left a message on my answerphone saying they were from HMRC and that they were taking legal action against me. Then they just hung up! What a load of rubbish. It’s quite unsettling though, especially if someone actually fell for it. How on earth did they get my number when I’m ex-directory? Honestly, I wish these kinds of calls would stop. They’re seriously starting to annoy me!
