I received a rather dubious call from this number, where an automated voice claimed to represent HMRC and mentioned something about launching a case against me. After that, a chap with a rather strong accent came on the line and requested my name. Naturally, I was hesitant to divulge any personal details, as they had rung me, and surely they ought to have that information at hand. When he insisted on knowing my name, I requested some form of verification to confirm he was genuinely from HMRC. Suddenly, the line went silent, and I was left hanging. It's clear to me that this is a scam attempt, and I will be making a report about it.

Someone pretending to be police said they were from HMRC and told my vulnerable sister in law she had to pay money from 1982 or they'd take her to court. They kept ringing her non stop, scaring her so much she had a panic attack in the supermarket. By the time I got the call the calls stopped since someone blocked her number, but when I tried to report it to the Met police on 101, I couldn’t get through and was left waiting for like 30 minutes. She was absolutely terrified they’d be outside her flat waiting for her cos they had her address.

My 86 year old dad got a call from someone claiming to be HMRC, saying he was being sued and to press 1 to speak to a case officer. Told him to just ignore it and not pick up if they call again.
