I got a call from a woman claiming there was a warrant for my arrest and she wanted my National Insurance number. I told her I didn’t have it handy, and she said she’d wait while I found it. But as soon as I asked if she could send something in the post instead, she just ended the call. Definitely a scam.

For a moment, this proper gave me a right scare since I'd been dealing with some problems with HMRC recently. Honestly, someone needs to put a stop to these calls! I ended up pressing one and got a bloke on the line who sounded Indian, saying he was from HMRC and asking for my name. That’s when I just hung up. Can’t stand these annoying calls any more! What a pain!!

Got a dodgy call on my landline this morning at about 9:20 (Sat 13 Jan 18) from 01618505230. The caller claimed HMRC had taken legal action against me and that I should press “1” to talk to the case officer. I just hung up straight away and never pressed anything. I reported it to HMRC at [email protected] and have since blocked the number to stop any more of these calls.

Today, 12/01/18, I got a call from someone claiming to be HMRC. They said there was a lawsuit against me and insisted on my National Insurance number. I told them I didn’t know it offhand, so they said I had to find it right then or else. When I said I couldn’t, they threatened that I’d be arrested. I told them to send the police over if that was true, and then they just hung up.

I’m fed up with getting these calls, they’re so rude and hard to make out what they’re even saying. Then they start threatening me about some HRMC lawsuit. I don’t pick up my landline anymore because the answerphone kicks in after five rings. Now it’s me having to listen to them ramble on and on. Fingers crossed they’ll just stop bothering me soon.

Got a call with a recorded warning about some HMRC legal stuff. Then this guy said he was a case officer and started asking for my National Insurance number and birthday. He already knew my name and where I live. I told him to send something in writing to prove it, and then he started threatening that the police would get involved! Then he just dropped the call.

I got a weird message on my answerphone with a muffled voice saying I had some kind of lawsuit against me. Being daft, I rang them back. When someone picked up, I just said I had a missed call from their number, then they immediately hung up. The number was 0161 8505230. You should definitely report these nuisance calls to the Information Commissioner's Office via https://ico.org.uk. That way, they can build a solid case against those responsible. It seems like the only way to get these companies fined or properly dealt with is through official complaints. While warning people here is helpful, it unfortunately doesn't lead to any real consequences.

Just like loads of folks have said, this was a rubbish spam call pretending to be from HMRC. It’s shocking they’d call out of the blue like that, and I can imagine how it could really frighten older or vulnerable people. My partner struggles with serious mental health issues, so I don’t even pick up the phone if it’s not someone we know. No way am I mentioning this call to her either. If HMRC or anyone official needed to get in touch, they’d send a proper letter with your actual name on it, not some dodgy phone call out of nowhere!
