I got a call from that number with the same message yesterday and the day before as well. I reached out to the Isle Of Wight Police, but they said there’s nothing they can do since the calls are coming from outside the UK.

I keep getting calls from similar 0161 numbers, but when I answer there’s never anyone there. I’m going to label them as 'Scam' in my phone now. About that comment from the bloke in the IOW, saying the police can’t do anything because the calls come from outside the UK - surely they can track it down through the company that lets them use a Manchester area code? Can’t the police or Action Fraud trace who’s paying for these numbers? Maybe I’m being a bit hopeful, but with all the tech these days, surely Fraud Action or Ofcom could figure out a way to stop this?

Got a message on my voicemail sayin something like "Customs and HMRC have an arrest warrant for you. Press to talk to an officer." I just deleted it straight away.

Just got back and found a voicemail, no number shown this time, it sounded international but same weird message. It’s getting tougher to make out now, maybe the recording’s breaking down. When I managed to talk to someone yesterday, they were swearing at me. Had a look at the Ofcom website but it’s not helpful at all. Surely there must be a way to put a stop to these calls - they’ll end up scaring someone who’s really vulnerable and that could be awful.

Got a voicemail on our home phone around 1:20pm today, claiming it was from HMRC about an unpaid tax issue. It said "Press 1 to talk to your case officer." I hung up straight away. We’re based in Derry, Northern Ireland. Just wanna give everyone a heads up about this dodgy call!

Just got a call about 15 mins ago from this number, some woman claiming to be from HM Revenue and Customs. She was asking for my National Insurance number, telling me I owed a load of money in tax. Like I’d just hand over my info to someone with a weird accent on the phone! I’m in Derry, so be warned - this is definitely a scam. She even said the police were on their way to me. Luckily, I didn’t fall for it and kept my details safe.

That’s quite something! Do you think they’ve managed to get a list of pensioners from the Isle of Wight? Me and my partner are both quite senior and live here too, and this number called around half past three in the afternoon. My missus didn’t answer, like she normally does with strange numbers, but then she heard their message and it really upset her. I’m also based on the Isle of Wight. Just got this automated call saying something like they’d been trying to reach me, and that HMRC or the Inland Revenue had started legal action against me. They told me to press 1 to talk to my Case Officer. I knew it was dodgy straight away, but it was still pretty unnerving. TalkTalk told me I could block the number (I don’t usually pick up anyway, and my answerphone message usually puts off most spam calls), but I really want to learn how to report these scammers. They really ought to be taken to court.

Somebody said they were from HMRC, but when I told them I wasn’t convinced and called them out, they just told me to hang up and wait for the police to turn up, saying they were coming. Like a few others here, I’m on the Isle of Wight too, so I guess they’re just cycling through numbers in this area. What’s the point though? I reckon if you do get tricked, they might try to get you to pay up straight away. It’s a bit intimidating, honestly.

Someone called saying they'd sue me over some tax I supposedly owed. I phoned HMRC and they told me they would never contact anyone like that on the phone. Definitely just scammers trying to scare people.

Got a call around 6:17pm from 01618504577 on my landline. They said something about suing me and told me to press 1 to talk to a police officer. I’ve already let the police know about it. Honestly, this kind of call would really scare someone who’s vulnerable!

Got a text from HMRC on April 3rd sayin they were looking into somethin about me and to press 1 to chat with my case manager. I didn't bother replying.

I told the bloke on the phone exactly what I thought about his little act - he claimed to be 'Danny Harper' from HMRC. He then cheekily told me I should go and kiss my own behind. What really unsettled me was hearing loads of other voices in the background, clearly from a call centre, shouting orders to people who were falling for the scam. Definitely reported.
