The number 01618504014 rang me on these dates and times: 26/11/2018 at 14:48, 27/11/2018 at 10:31, 01/12/2018 at 14:49, and 02/12/2018 at 10:32. The last two were left on my answerphone. The voice message claimed HMRC were taking legal action against me and told me to press !# to talk to my police officer. HMRC would never make a call like this. This number has phoned me twice now. The first call seemed authentic, so I pressed 1 to talk to my case worker. The conversation felt quite believable, and he gave me both his name and a badge ID. But when he said his name was David Jones yet sounded obviously Indian, I started to get suspicious. This scam is really harmful and caused me a lot of stress.

Got back today and saw they rang me 4 times - at 13:10, 14:10, 15:10, and 16:10 - clearly some automated caller. Lucky for me I have BT call screening, so none of the calls actually made it through, just showed up as blocked on my phone screen. Would totally recommend on getting a phone with call blocking, they’re quite affordable these days.

It turns out, HMRC has been inundated with similar reports-about four calls daily! They advise completely disregarding these threats. Honestly, there should be a big crackdown on these horrible people, and same goes for HMRC, the police, and phone companies for not cracking down harder. They need proper jail time, like 10 years or more, with massive fines if caught and convicted - probably arent even local, despite the Manchester area code.

Yep, it's another one of those HMRC scams - easy to spot if you’re alert, but pretty scary for folk who might be more trusting or not as cautious. Because of that, I’d say it’s pretty risky. Obviously, the fraud squads have to find and prosecute these scammers. But us regular people should really be pushing phone companies to clamp down on the 'Caller ID spoofing' which they seem to let happen far too often.

Just like a few others, I got a recorded call from 0161 8504014. Definitely seems like a scam, but it might cause some stress for older or more vulnerable people.

Got a call from HMRC supposedly threatening legal action! The number showed up as 01618504014, which makes it look like it's from Manchester, but I reckon it’s actually the same number from Ludhiana in Punjab, India, just without the country code. Really frightening, especially if you’re elderly or get anxious easily.

0161 850 4014 - got a recorded message claiming there’s a legal action against me, told me to 'press 1' to talk to my case officer. Then it just hung up. I called the number back and an American dude’s recorded voice answered. Like loads of people have said, this is definitely a scam. Reported it to HMRC already.

Got a call today, Tue 27th Nov at 2:51pm. When I asked where they were calling from, they just hung up. Tried ringing back the number and got a poor quality recorded message asking to leave your name and number. The number, 01618504014, looks like it’s from Manchester, not abroad. Really feels like this could be risky for older people who might not know better.

I received a call earlier today, Tuesday 27th November, at precisely 14:51. As soon as I inquired about his location, he abruptly disconnected the line. I decided to return the call, but all I got was a crackly pre-recorded message advising me to leave my name and number. Given that the number I dialled was 01618504014, it appears to be local to Manchester rather than overseas. I'm genuinely concerned, as these sorts of calls could pose a serious risk to our more vulnerable elderly population.

I received a rather alarming voicemail today, claiming that HM Revenue and Customs is taking legal action against me. They even provided this number for me to call my so-called caseworker tomorrow! As a disabled lady with mental health challenges, you can imagine how unnerving that was! I was in a right state until my daughter stepped in and reassured me that it was nothing but a scam! What a relief!
