Got a message saying HMRC was gonna take legal steps, told me to press 1 to talk to an advisor. When I pressed, the bloke on the other end had a thick Indian or Pakistani accent, sounded really dodgy. It was so obvious it wasn’t genuine, really amateur effort. Sad thing is, they’re clearly targeting older folks who might fall for it. Honestly, these scammers should face harsh penalties, it’s just not on.

Got a call today around lunch from the number 01618501883. It was an automated voice claiming to be from HMRC, saying I’m being sued and should press 1 to talk to my case officer. I instantly knew it was dodgy and checked this site to be sure. I wonder how many folks, especially older ones, get tricked by these scams? I’ve blocked the number myself, but surely if HMRC or other groups know about this, BT or the phone providers should step in and block or shut down these numbers to protect people from these scams.

Got a call from this number today, and it was some robotic message claiming to be from HMRC, threatening court over unpaid taxes. When I pressed 1 to talk to someone, the person on the line immediately asked if I was me, and as soon as I asked what was going on, they started hurling tons of swear words at me. My 75-year-old dad, who has a bad heart, just got a call that really shook him up, especially when they started talking about taking him to court. I quickly told him it was a scam. These folks are total scumbags.

Got a voicemail warning me about some tax issues, sounded like a scam. They said to dial 1572 to block it. Total rubbish!

This is totally a scam, for sure. Just like others have said, BT should be blocking these calls. They claim to be from HMRC but they're lying. Best thing is not to answer or chat with them. Make sure you report it to BT or whichever service you use for your phone.

Twice in one week now, I've had calls from numbers almost identical except the last four digits were different. I'm registered with TPS and use BT Protect, yet these calls still sneak past. Like many others, it was an HMRC scam. I didn’t pick up but they did leave a voicemail. Feels useless to block since they just switch numbers constantly! Really grateful for websites like this though, where people can post about these scams and keep others informed!

This morning my 90-year-old mum got two calls from someone pretending to be HMRC, threatening legal action and telling her to press '1' to speak to a caseworker. Totally a scam! Good thing she rang me back instead of doing what they told her.
