Just today, at half past two, I received a call from the number 0161 826 5601, claiming to be from RBS, stating they wanted to discuss a loan application I had supposedly submitted online. Thankfully, I had the sense to hang up before it went too far. Once I arrived home from work, I decided to ring up the official banking helpline, only to discover that RBS had no record of any such call reaching me. It seems I had fallen prey to a cold-calling scammer masquerading as RBS, as well as pretending to be affiliated with various other banks and building societies. I was curious enough to ring the number back, but all I got was silence - it didn’t even sound like it was ringing! Quite the dodgy operation if you ask me.
