The pattern remains remarkably consistent: the phone rings, and upon answering, there’s an awkward silence before someone finally chimes in. They typically have quite a polished way of speaking, addressing me either by my full name or simply my first name. Each time, it’s a different company name they trot out when I inquire who they represent, often claiming to be "Consultants." They invariably attempt to engage me in a discussion about timeshares, which is nothing more than an unwelcome interruption. These calls always come through on the landline.
