BEWARE OF SCAMS! If you get one of these dodgy calls or messages, make sure you report it straight to the police fraud database. Just search for ‘action fraud’ and head to the ‘police.uk’ website. Find the section to report phishing, read through everything, then put in all the details about the scam. If there’s a link or web address, include that as well. You don’t need to sign up, and they won’t ask for personal info unless you’ve actually lost money. The only way the police can track and fight these crooks is if everyone reports every suspicious call or text they get.

I recently had an unsavoury phone call from the number 0161 8209652. The chap on the other end had a rather thick foreign accent, claiming to be from Microsoft and inquiring about issues with my computer. I promptly informed him that I didn't own a computer, to which he swiftly switched his line of questioning to my laptop. I firmly told him he was a scammer, and then he ominously suggested he would ring me back. I made it clear that I wanted no further contact from him. He became quite aggressive, insisting three times that he would return. I stood my ground, telling him I wasn’t intimidated one bit. He shot back that he felt no fear towards me either. I warned him that I would not hesitate to report his antics to the local authorities if he persisted. His response? He dismissed my threat, calling it "Police nonsense", and just like that, the call ended abruptly.
