Seriously, everyone should check numbers with a site like this before bothering to answer. After that, just block and report the dodgy ones straight away. I’m 59, considered a bit vulnerable, and honestly, I’m fed up with these scams trying every single day. Watch out, folks!

Got a call from a woman saying she was from Insurance Review, talking about my Aviva policy. She sounded quite nice and kept saying she wasn’t trying to sell me anything, which put me at ease. But then she started asking loads of questions about my policy, calling them "security questions" to make sure it was me. She said it was an annual review, but I’ve never had one before. Plus, she got stuff wrong about my smoking habits. I told her I wasn’t comfortable sharing that info and said I’d ring back, then she just hung up. Bit suspicious if you ask me.

I got a call from someone saying they were with an Insurance company, mentioned Aviva and a load of others. They already knew my name and said they wanted to discuss Life Insurance with me. I told them I wasn’t interested and asked them to take my name off their marketing list. Today I got called three times from different numbers, all claiming to be from Clear Compare Insurance. Each time, the caller had an English name like James, Amba or Ann, but sounded like they were speaking from abroad. Got a call from some bloke overseas while I was waiting for my doctor to ring me back. I told him I didn’t have time to hang about, then he started shouting at me like mad, asking what was wrong with me and who was wasting time. I just told him to hang up. If I knew what was wrong, I wouldn’t be expecting the doctor’s call in the first place! Honestly, what a rubbish person. They should find a proper job instead of bothering folks. Best just to block ‘em and forget about it.

This number has been ringing my husband's phone non stop, always asking for someone called Brian Wilson about insurance stuff. We've had this number for ages and don't know any Brian Wilson, so it’s gotta be some kind of scam. When I answered, I said, "Do I sound like a bloke?" and told them to buzz off. Got a call around half eleven from a woman who sounded like she was from abroad, talking about comparing insurance options. I picked up the phone and was met with nothing but dead air. Honestly, I couldn’t help but sigh - I had a hunch it was one of those pesky cold calls. The caller claimed to be inquiring about life insurance, but funnily enough, she had a distinctly English name while sounding like she was calling from some bustling factory, surrounded by all sorts of clattering machinery! Even if there was something genuine in her pitch, I wouldn’t have been able to grasp a word amidst all that racket.

The person on the phone called me by my first name only and wanted details about some life insurance policies I supposedly hold with firms like Aviva and Legal & General. No security questions were asked at all. When he asked my age, I was a bit confused and asked why, and he said he didn’t have my date of birth on file. I don’t think I’ve got any policies like that anyway. I told him three times I didn’t want to talk anymore, but he just kept saying my name over and over. Eventually, I ended the call. Fortunately, they haven’t rung me again.

Here are the specifics of the encounter: Date: Friday, 6th July 2012 Time: 12:26 PM Caller ID: 0161 820 1867 Subject Matter: Home Insurance My phone number: 01538 387 812 (PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT ME AGAIN) I have taken the necessary steps to register with the Telephone Preference Service, as I’ve grown weary of incessant cold calls pushing products on me that I neither desire nor require. When I expressed my intention to file a complaint, the agent turned rather hostile and mockingly asked if I wanted his vehicle registration number or other such irrelevant information-a clear display of sarcasm. I have since lodged a complaint with Paymentshield, only to be informed that they have no record of the number from which the call originated, nor do they employ anyone by the name of Ben. When my wife informed the caller that we had sourced an alternative policy and had cancelled the direct debit, he shockingly exclaimed, "What the hell are you doing?" before abruptly hanging up. I attempted to return the call, but I was met with a recorded message saying, "We’re sorry, there’s a fault - please hang up."
